Ok PROBLEMS with GSR swap in 92 VX please!!!!!!!
Ok here's the situation. Don't know what the hell it is but I'll try to explain the best I can.
My friend and I got my b18c into my vx. We used the old vx wiring harness. Engine is in, no dash or cluster so I can't tell what codes are being thrown. Anyway we put the key in and turn it to the on position. That's when I hear a quick clicking or tapping type sound in the relay box on the drivers side floor. Sounds like it's also making a tapping in the rear under the gas tank or fuel pump?? It doesn't stop either until turned off. The vehicle also doesn't start yet
I'm not sure what to do and I thought all the experience on this site should help. Anyway any suggestions ideas would help. We have checked all wiring and am pretty sure it's all correct. Haven't wired up the IAB and o2 sensors.
OH also if anyone know what the hell the black box in the engine bay against the firewall. It is in the very middle next to the charcoal canister lemme know if I need that. My buddies hatch witha b16 in it, he doesn't have this box, it's about 2x2 inches and almost and I think has 2 tubes coming out of it. Thanks guys I just want this damn car to start.

I don't know. You say all the wiring is correct that you know of. I would seriously try to get a cluster in the car and see what codes you are throwing. I wouldn't even want to drive my Hybrid w/o a cluster. Not only will you be clueless to what's going on with the motor, you won't know your speed, if motor is running hot, and what CEL codes you may be throwing.

I can't even think of what 2" X 2" box you are referring to. I know I didn't add/remove the box you are talking about though.

I know I'm just trying to get the god damn thing to start. If we can get it to start,.. then that's a start!! Anyway the dash and cluster goes in monday. My boy went on vacation so the project is on hold.
Anyway the car isn't going to be on the road for another 2 weeks. Just whipping my truck 4 now. thanks bro appreciate the reply.
BTW - my damn digital camera fuc@#$ broke so I can't take a pic. Stupid HP 00' digital won't save to the CF card now
edit .. problem solved with the box.. thanks to everyone and anyone. H-T is a great place. I spend a few hours here a day. Good ppl here and almost 2 much info for the mind to hold..almost.

Why don't you just take a total break from your project until Monday... after thedash and cluster go in? You don't want to **** anything up unnecessarily now, do you?

I see ur in the middle 2. Well I got the engine in and I'm taking that thing out. It's not need 4 a GSR in the VX. I'm about 95% sure. Now I got a ticking sound I gotta take care of .. I tell ya.

i used to have that black box there , but when i got my car rewired
the guy took it off, i guess i dont need it , my car runs fine

The black box is for emissions control...take it out and chunk it, just leave the plug going to it dangling. The other picture is of the EGR vavle...also leave that plug dangling [the plug on the harness is right next to the VTEC plugs]. I just got done with my LS swap into my VX and had a problem VERY similar to yours. When hitting the ignition to the START position, the relays would click all over the car, and the radiator fan would start running. Dash lights were staying on in the car even with the key completely out of it! What it turned out to be was a bad connection on my transmission ground and the big wire going to my starter shorting out on the casing. I bent the loop connector that bolted to the starter so it would have more clearance from the casing, sanded down the connection for my transmission ground strap, and haven't had a problem with my car since.
I agree you are probably hearing a combination of the fuel pump and a relay or two. Just track down the noise and figure out if its just a loud relay or if you have an arc.
Thanks guys gonna give it a try 2marrow gotta order these parts in the morning. Ground wire and ****.. anyway should be in good shape by the end of 2marrow.
