I got some questions for a buddy of mine. Please help guys.
1. Since 1979, most cars had on board compuer systems. What is the primary tool for checking such vehicles voltage?
2. When installing an amp, what size fuse do you use at the battery end of the power wire?
3. If the power wire continuosly blows, what should you do?
4. Name the tools you would regularly use for doing a hard-wire on any vehicle?
5. When wiring 4 - 12" 4ohm subwoofers toa 2 omh stanle- 4 ohm mono amplifier, what is the correct wirning method?
6. A customer brings in a radio installed elsewhere that keeps shutting off when the headlights are turned on. What is the problem?
7. When doing any work on a vehicle, including an amp install, what relation should the ground wire have to the power source wire?
8. What is the proper way to check an amp to see if it has power?
9. On a car with airbags, what are the connectors for the airbags?
10. If a customer ask you to do any work other than what you were initially instructed, what should you do?
I kinda need a quick response, but the answers are really what is needed! Thanx guys !

What is the primary tool for checking such vehicles voltage? Digital multi-meter (i.e. Fluke, Radio Shack).
2. When installing an amp, what size fuse do you use at the battery end of the power wire? Depends on the current requirements of the amp(s).
3. If the power wire continuosly blows, what should you do? Check for shorts in the speaker wires and/or power wire or a mismatch in fuse ratings (i.e. amp fuse vs. fuse at battery). Amp could also be defective.
4. Name the tools you would regularly use for doing a hard-wire on any vehicle? What do you mean by hardwire? Some common installer tools are: cordless drill, digital multi-meter, soldering tool, high quality crimper, assortment of picks and screwdrivers.....the list goes on.
5. When wiring 4 - 12" 4ohm subwoofers toa 2 omh stanle- 4 ohm mono amplifier, what is the correct wirning method? Series-parallel.
6. A customer brings in a radio installed elsewhere that keeps shutting off when the headlights are turned on. What is the problem? I would verify all of the power connections. This should not happen in a proper install.
7. When doing any work on a vehicle, including an amp install, what relation should the ground wire have to the power source wire? Grounds are typically kept short as possible and bolted to a solid part of the chassis. The gauge should match what's coming into the power side.
8. What is the proper way to check an amp to see if it has power? I use a digital multi-meter. Aside from looking at the power light, I'll check for 12v+ at the main power and remote turn-on inputs. I'll also make sure the ground passes the continuity test.
9. On a car with airbags, what are the connectors for the airbags? They usually have bright yellow plugs and/or tape.
10. If a customer ask you to do any work other than what you were initially instructed, what should you do? Inform the customer of additional labor charges and the length of time it will take. The installer should also check the schedule to make sure other jobs will not be delayed.

1. DMM
2. Depends. Use something a little higher than the amp will draw.
3. I would pull it and rerun it.
4. Crimper, stripper.
5. Each pair in series, then parallel to the pairs.
6. Dunno
7. Same size, short as possible.
8. DMM across positive and negative, then remote and negative.
9. Dunno
10. Talk to your boss probably.
I have never worked in a car audio shop so some don't apply to me

3. Definatly check for shorts, maybe you drilled through it when putting everything back together, and maybe put a bigger fuse with the power wire to the battery.
4. Crimpers, Crimp Caps, Strippers, tone generator and a multimeter or test light
6. I'd say check behind the radio to see if illumination was hooked up, never hook illumination up, illumination is gay, it's the orange or orange with white stripe wire on the radio harness or wiring harness.
8. Multimeter will work, make sure you have sufficient power, you should have constant power while the car is on and off, so if there's no power to the amp when the car is off and on, then there's something wrong with your wiring
10. Definatly inform the dude about additional labor charges and ask the bossman, never do **** for free, gets you nowhere, trust me, i know, plus if you do it without being told, you're missing out on other money you could be making on other cars.

FYI....test lights are a big NO NO when it comes to alarm installations. If you accidently probe the wrong wire......you'll get a very loud and expensive surprise (air bag deploying). In this day and age, there's really no reason to use a test light. Especially when digital multimeters are relatively cheap and easy to use.
