My father took the 98 Civic LX (automatic - parents car) in to get the ignition problem fixed. As my father waited the guy said the remote start would not work after the new ignition problem was fixed. The reason was the person who installed the alarm spliced in at the ignition where they should of spliced in at or near the fuse box. This is according to the Honda technician telling my father.
After
finished my father noticed that NOTHING on the alarm worked. No keyless, no arming, no remote start.
He's wondering how many wires should be connected to the ignition that was replaced? Any ideas? If pics would help, let me know what to look for and I'll take/post pics.
Does this sound like a $hitty install of the alarm? The guy who did it was on automot....forums.com and was suppose to be one of the better installers
Thanks for any help!

When the ignition was reparied, did the technician also replace the harness coming off the key cylinder? The installer may have made most of his connections on this harness and if it was replaced, the alarm most likely will not have power and/or connections to the ignition and starter.
Try to post pics of the wires coming off the key cylinder as well as the area where the alarm brain is installed. Also, try to include shots of the steering column and the general area underneath the dash. You will have to remove some panels in order to take good pictures.

Yes, most likely, the original installer used ALL wires from the ignition harness in the steering column, which has the starter, CONSTANT 12v (which = alarm power), and Ignition 12v. Honda must've replaced the entire ignition, from the ignition switch to the harness connecting to the fuse box.
In this case, the original alarm wires are probably dangling there.
However, that was a bad install, initially, because it is so easy to disable using the steering column harness.

Ok, guys. I will be taking pics in the morning when I remove the 8 gauge power wire from the car for my Eg. I need to get some info on where to tap in for the power and all that stuff for the alarm. My buddy used to work at Circuit City and recommended this one guy there. I need to know the correct location to tap in for the alarm power. The honda technician said the guy should of tapped in at the fuse box. Is this correct and does he mean the rear side of the fuse box? I just don't want a bundle of wires in front of my fuse box as this would be easy for a thief to disable the alarm.
I like to make most of my taps behind the fusebox. It's more time consuming but you end up with a more "stealth" installation. For window modules and relays, I like to make a run to the battery and then distribute the power accordingly.
Yes, he meant the wires coming out behind the fusebox, not actually going into the fuses. That would be the most amature of jobs. Be warned that some of the colours may change vs. the wiring diagram you have. For instance, in my 94 Civic SI, the WHITE always on line was white with black stripe after the connection from the steering column harness.
It may be different depending on the car.

they only replaced the ignition switch on the honda's AFAIK. Atleast in my case. But they might have disconnected the alarm wires to check stuff, and they won't hook them back up

gf 99 civic went in for ignition recall, and before they do anything on it, they told her we are going to mess with the wires in that area and that will include the alarms wires.....
and they charged her about 35 bucks to reinstall the alarm.

So, in my Eg where should I have the guy splice in for power / etc...?
I would like to have the alarm done right as possible.
What kind of things should you ask the installer about the install?
