i yanked a t3 out of an 83 vovol today and it spins really well. however the seems to be a little shaft play. i dont know a ton about turbos but i do know shaft play is bad, and i heard when there is shaft play and the fins hit the compressor housing that '**** hits the fan' ie. your turbo busts up. well here is the question, i took off the housing and all the fins seem perfect, but at the same time it looks like there is a mark from where the fins have hit the side??????

 

all turbos have a little shaft play, its the excessive play that hurts. you would be able to sense if its to much.
