it could only snap from a heavy mechanical failure like seized bearings and such, the turbine blades would go before the shaft. The shaft is made from Ni alloys and are meant to take lots of heat and mechanical strain. It is possible to ruin the shaft by spinning a bearing you would have it machined with a new cutting tip because anything used on non Ni Alloys will contaminate the surface and then re size bearings.

i know that on dsm's... people have snapped the 16g turbo's shaft when pushed too hard... just was wondering how a differant turbo would hold up... granted the 16g is a small turbo and can easily be pushed to it limits

snapping the shaft is the least of your worries with a turbo, try thinking about foreign object injestion into your turbo - what do you think the fan blades would look like after. DSM are made the same way everyone elses are, high quality Ni alloy shaft, they dont break unless something stupid happens, they are bound by the same quality standards as turbos for the aerospace industry - their is no engineered redundancy built into aircraft turbos, if it breaks youre skrewed

true... but after a certain amount of power that the 16g can put out... but once u get the turbo spooling even faster and pushing more boost... the actual shaft snaps... imo this is a bigger worry than some dirt going in... granted that is big problem itself... but how about a shaft snapping at xx,ooo rpms
