Possible to turbocharge b16a ?
Hey everyone. I drive a 97 delsol with the b16a. I'm planning on throwing a turbo in there but i'm getting mixed opinions on this one. I have heard horror stories of all kinds about turboing these engines.
Have any of you succesfully implemented this setup without any major reliablity issues? If you have turbo'd your b16, what is your setup? What other upgrades where done to your engine? Or did you just leave it stock and just bolted the turbo on?
Thanks...

I've got a drag 3 kit with hondata and 440s and have been running on a stock engine for 1 year/20,000 miles. If you tune right, it'll last a long time, as long as you don't do anything stupid.
You have heard correctly, no one has ever successfully turbocharged the B16. It's CR is simply too high.
You should either swap in a big power ZC, or get two NOS bottles.

what do u mean successfully turbocharged it? sure the pistons wont last but if u run a forged setup with same compression, lots of people are doing that, or running high compression turbos

No, I'm sorry, that is just an internet myth. No one has ever gotten a turbocharged B16 to last for it's first oil change. Please make an effort to research the subject before you post crap like this.

lies. I know like 4 people in my town that have stock b16a turbo's they hold up fine. they also have good fuel manegement. you can turbo a freakin geo metro just as long as you have the correct airfuel ratios and you safeguard your self from detonation. I even have a b16 turbo, so I know.
Im gonna bump this **** because it is so ******* stupid I have never heard of a b16a boosted. Hold up whats my name? boosted = turbo sir=civic w/b16 hmmm
boostedsir, I will let you firgure that **** out, I just hope you dont even touch boost with questions like that. I shouldnt be mean because I guess we all start somewhere hahaha

despite what these people say it CAN be done!
I spent roughly $10,000 on my fully built b16 setup. 800cc injectors, pistons, rods, sleeved, valves, springs, headwork, you name it. I was able to successfully drive my car approximately 100 yards before blowing it up. No joke, it was the best 10k I've ever invested. Now the car is sitting while I save up to do it all again.
The sad thing is, this is a true story.
The moral is, yes you can successfully turbo a b16. But remember, I had a fully built setup for 100 yards, if you don't build it you will probably only last 20-30 yards. Make sure to have friends around to push you back into the garage.

i have a B16a and im using turbo...i have had zero problems! I have Drag 3 manifold, Turbonetics WG, Greddy bov, custom piping, Garrett T4 turbo. and other things....the motor is completly stock! it has been running great since i put the turbo on...its been like 2 months and its fine! I think you should be able to turbo a B16a motor as long as u know what your doing! And u must TUNE!
Turbo in a B16A?!!? Are u outta your mind?!
Mission impossible?!?!
You'll be blowing those flux capacitors left right and centre so make sure you got a support truck with you even if you drive it to get your shopping! LOL!!
