Recommendations for Transmission Oil
Do you guys have any recommendations for a 2000 USDM Type R Tranny Transmission Oil? I believe my manual says SP grade 10W-30 or 10W-40. The regular stuff I bought at checker was a valvoline GL grade 75W-90. What is the difference in the GL standard vs. SP? Also, I believe the 75W-90 will not provide the viscosity I need when engine is warming up, correct? Someone recommended Redline... Where can I buy it and for how much? I'm open to any other brand recommedations too... Thanks...

Damn, Chris no need to get upset.
I think Honda MTF or Redline will do fine. If you have the extra cash to spend then try the Redline..

Hey **** ****. We heard you the first time.
Would you like me to explain why I prefer Honda MTF, because it does not allow deteroration of sycros like Redline...

Hi guys, I didn't mean to cause any stress... I did check some prices - $7.95 per quart for Redline MTL From Carroll Shelby Racing in Phoenix, Arizona, and $3.99 per quart for the Honda MTF from Bell Honda. I would need around 3-4 quarts for a complete drain. As long as the Honda MTF will stand up to the rigours of road racing, I will probably go with the Honda MTF. I did read up on the Redline MTL properties on the redlineoil.com website and must say it sounded quite impressive, but do I really need it? What do you guys think?
Someone just mentioned that I might need something special for a tranny with a Limited Slip Differential as those generate more heat.... Anyone using any particular tranny oil in their tranny with LSD? I know people with Kaaz LSDs that use Kaaz gear oil...

I use redline but just to clarify to the poster (because everyone tries to be all l33t by not really explaining anything they just hint at stuff...)
there is debate as to whether or not redline tranny oil causes deterioration of the transmission bearings and synchros....
HOWEVER... I have to say that personally I was using Redline MTL... and it's great... my tranny is on it's way out anyway so I don't much care if it causes long term damage... but it DEFINATELY made the tranny run MUCH smoother than it ever did before (except when new for me @ 60k mi.). and a LOT of the whurring associated with bad bearings went away however it's NOT gone...
So I say for safety's sake if nothing else stay away from redline...
If anyone has any better or clearer information, I for one would LOVE to hear...

Thank you to everyone for their inputs. I posted this question on the ITR forum as well, since I though that with a LSD I minght need special Tranny Oil. Most of the replies said that they were happy with Honda MTF, and one guy even uses it for road racing. So for now I guess I'll stick with Honda MTF and see how that works. Thanks again for your help...

yep
yep
redline has 2 GL-4 fluids..the MTL and MT-90..if use 2 qts of MTL for easier shifting in high and low temps. and top it off with MT-90 for better protection against tranny wear
ive always used mtf or 10/30 in the past and my tranny syncros always go bad..so my next tranny im using royal purple 75-90 . ifigure thethicker gear oil will prolongthelife of the tranny.. but with lsd i wouldnt use anything other than gl4.. basically synthetic gear oil with limitedslip additive..
