Default zex cam in d16y8?

i am looking into getting the zex stage 2 street/strip cam for my y8. Does anybody have any experience with this cam and a y8. I hear that it works well with the z6, but i haven't heard much about the stage 2 for the y8. Also I know you can use the zex stage 2 cam without springs and retainers as long as you don't overrev past the stock redline, but what about the crower stage 2 cam? I hear it is more agressive. Would you definantely need the springs and retainers with this one?

I believe the Y8 cam is the same spec as the Z6 cam, so I would imagine it would be just as good. No experience with it yet so not sure though.

I also read that 96-00 Civics will require ignition timing changes for either cam - anyone know more about this?

what about the crower stage 2 cam? How are those on the y8? Would i definantely need the springs and retainers with the crower cam if i kept the stock redline?

That would mean it's for the Z6...

I've seen pictures here of a broken D Zex cam...

Yes, the timing will be off if a D16Z6 cam is installed in a D16Y8 and vice versa. You can either change the ignition timing or, as Skunk2 recommends, change it with a cam gear.
