will my headgasket seal part II
Well here's the head. Do I have to get all of the black **** off? It doesn't catch my fingernail...it seems that the surface is just colored that way. The flash made the scratches really turn it, the surface is actually really good (unlike my block)
if you dont want to send the head to the machine shop and have them re-surface it then you can try using some 200-300grit sand paper and a block of wood and gentley clean up the surface of the head. it usually works pretty well.
but by looking at that head i would spend the ~100~ bucks and have a machine shop hot tank and re-surface it to clean it up. the chambers look like ****.......

Ignore the chambers, I haven't even touched them yet. I was just curious about the surface, does the black **** have to come off??? I mean it's clean as hell except for that black **** which doesn't have much thickness, if any at all.
black stuff on the suface looks like its from the headgasket..! Headgasket got too hot and the top layer melted and stuck to the head..? ..well, thats what it looks like but iono.........
looks like i can file my nails on that thing...!
My nails...

I replaced the gasket on my crx and it still had some of the gasket crud on the head like yours. I didnt care because I thought the engine might be messed up from a timing belt snap, just wanted to see if it would run. It's been almost a year, no problems so far.

Yup, best thing to do. I didn't want to screw around with scraping that crap off. Also, use a 92-00 1.6 VTEC head gasket... they're metal, not composite, so you won't have this problem again.

As the crxer said above, he had **** on his too and it sealed. So it's stayin that way. I also talked to a couple mechanics that I trust and they said it'll be fine.
