Default Help. How to: Custom Box

I searched this site on custom boxes, but no results.

I would like to make a sealed custom box for my ek hatch. I have 2 12' alpine type r subs. I'm not sure on the shape of the box yet.

Anyways I'm new at this so any help is appreciated.

I need to know the following:

1. Materials/Tools needed. What's a bad/decent/good material to make the box out of? Do I need wires, fuses, etc..?

2. Outline of the general procedure of what to do.

3. Anything I should bea aware about such as minimun size of the box, etc...?

I have a week before I start building the box, so all the info you can help me with would be a great. A "HOW TO" SITE WILL BE VERY HELPFUL.

I will take pictures as I go along, and if all goes well I'll post a "how to" on here.

Thanks.

1. MDF, glue, screws, and something to cut it with.
2. Since this is your first box, get the recommended size off manufacturers site. Probably about 1 cubic foot per sub. If that is the case you make a 2 cubic foot box. To calculate box volume if you have inches will be LxWxH/1728. Figure out a size that will work for your trunk.

PM me if you have more specific questions.

You can search the termpro website or carsound, lots of info. But if your not using a table saw I suggest you don't wastes you time and just go to the home depot with your dimensions and have them cut it for you it's only 25 cents after the 2nd cut

You will need to go to lowe's. HD won't cut mdf anymore. Good luck trying to make a box with the cuts that they will make. You will have a better chance with an aluminum straight edge and a circular or jig saw.

or you can always ask vteg to make you a box

he made mine and OMG was it a world of a difference.
i went from a sealed 10W7 to JL audio's recommended sealed enclosure specs
to what vteg recommended for a ported enclosure.
sq is still all there imo and SPL?? sounds like i have 2 or 3 JL10W7's
instead of just one..and that's with my gains turned all the way down.
i had my gains halfway when it was sealed...didn't hit hard for shyt.

edit: vteg will charge you a very fair price considering the build quality
involved and attention to detail.

HD still cuts mdf over here in philly. I don't have a truck to haul 5 4'x8' sheets of mdf so I have them cut it dowm to 2x4's.

exactly how i feel. freakin..the guy i had build thesealed box didn't even carpet it right...he said he was in a rush...so ****** what i still paid him the same amount.
that guy even runs a shop and an online business.
shawn's carpeting was fine imo..it looked nice and no wood was showing lol.. and he even said carpeting is not his forte...he even painted the port black so it would look all black...nice and clean.

everyone who heard my system before with the sealed enclosure can't believe it's
the same sub with the ported. they swear i got two 15's now and then i pop the trunk lol

After hearing the 10w7 ported, I now have faith in 10 inch subs. I have never seen one make the hatch flex at like 30 before
