axle won't come out of hub? help.
got the axle nut off, and got the lower ball joint seperated...but the axle wont come out of the hub. Hit it with some WD40 and beat on it with a hammer for a few minutes, and it's not coming out...
I'm just trying to install my new clutch, can I get the transmission out with out removing the axles?

I had the same problem, I just kept beating on it. Just be careful because you dont want the joint coming apart in the boot..{too much angle}Good luck

Yes... Helms says to do it that way, as well as zip tie baggies on the exposed splines so they dont get dirty.

let it hang, that's what i did...everytime i try to remove the axle from the hub i end up mushrooming the end i'm hammer
I just remove the axle from the tranny and prop it on a box and let it hang like RJ wrote....done that 3 times, works for me.

my axles would not come out of the hubs even with a 10lb sledge. You can do the way RJ says, it is kinda awkward to work with though, at least when I dropped the tranny. I suggest instead of letting it hang, use some rope and prop it up.
I ended up using a Craftsman 8 ton 2prong gear puller from sears (axle puller from autozone didnt work!). 34$ and worth it. Just pull off the brake rotor and put the gear puller on the hub... out she comes.

bs....it's not stuck...just in there really good.....get an impact HAMMER with a point and hold bottom of rotor away from car then hit with impact hammer.....just be careful and not let it slip off the axel and put the point through your hand like a friend of mine did!

if you dont want to worry about messing with the lower ball joints, just remove the three bolts from the lower control arm and let it hang. its worked for me several times and i have yet to mess up a ball joint
what we did when swapping trannies in my car is take the axle outta the tranny first then let it hang. then undo the ball joint on the hub side
with the axle hangin all u need is a dead blow hammer/impact hammer, be sure it is not straight metal or u will mushroom that thing, but since i was replacing my axles anyway
my friend just gave it one good smack and it popped right out, no probs

It has been severely damaged....
It was pretty dicked up before RJ pointed out that I did not have remove it, but while I was in here reading that, my friend went ahead and destroyed the end

you don't need to remove it from the hub to do the tranny. unless it's mushroomed too much to get the axle nut back on...

anyways. impact hammer = good.
