AIR/FUEL GAUGE INSTALL....is bouncing normal ?

I just installed my autometer gauge last night. for the sensor wire, I spliced into the all white wrie, and it did not work. i then spliced into the red/white wire, and it seems to work fine. Its just that when I have my foot on the gas under normal acceleration, the light bounces up and down between lean and stoich alot. Is this normal ?

From my experience the autometer A/F guages (and most A/F guages that read from the O2 sensor) are pretty useless, only for some extra blingin' flashing lights in your car.
The only way to get a real A/F reading is with a wide-band o2 sensor. IMHO a better way to get an indication of your A/F ratio would be an EGT guage that reads the temperature of your exhaust. If it gets hotter, you're running more lean, cooler and it's more rich.

Its not a tuning device, and shouldnt be used as one.
All it really is is a way to monitor your fuel situation under boost or WOT. If youre pegged at 2 bars rich and you start to see that AF guage lean out, you shut that son of a bitch down and find the problem. Its a safety device, thats all.

Even with a wideband O2, the lights will go up and down as the ecu is trying to find a target A/F ratio.

a cheap and easy to install "check engine light" upgrade
I think most people have this in temporary for the permanant fix later to come.

NEWGSRdriver, no del. ave for me this weekend. For the last few weekends the police have really been out in force, with the helicopters tracking people down with spotlights, cruisers, vans, etc. So I'm actually staying away for now. I actually got stopped up there 2 weeks ago, but the cop was really cool...He just gave me a warning and he said that the state troopers will be coming down there soon, and when they do they will be handing out 1,000 $ tickets and 6 month license suspensions for racing AND for spectating !
Yep youre right.
So when you spend $3500 on a turbo kit and installation, then youre running the car and a line to the FMU blows because of installer error that you had no idea of....you'll be kicking yourself because you spent that $50 on a guage that immediately went from rich/stoich to lean, which caused you to immediately shut the car off and save your motor from death that would have incurred within seconds.
Again, its not a TUNING device like you would love to believe so you can frame it to be worthless. Its a safety device.
ES - Thats crazy man, I guess I wont be down there for a while either then!
