Default D-series Sohc.........42/.48 or.......48/.60 help me out

My goal is 300 whp and a daily driver. I would like the turbo that would create the most power without sacrificing the drivablity.

This is going on a built d16 and seeing 14-18 psi

I am leaning towards the .48/.60 garrett but help me make up my mind!!!

how high you going to rev it?

for 300 hp...i would say a .50 trim and a either 48 or 60a/r...depending on how high you rev.

Those numbers by themselves mean very little. Where do plan on getting this turbo? From a junkyard car? The .42/.48 is usually a Saab or Volvo T3, but there are several different compressor wheels in those turbos.

these are garrett turbos. I there is a guy on ebay that offers both kinds. the one I am shooting for is the garrett T3 .48a/r .60 compressor

Are you referring to a T3 super 60 (60 trim) w/ .48a/r
or
T04E/T3 60trim w/ .48a/r

how do you know if it's a super 60 trim?

I have a turbo here that says. .48 on the exhaust side and .60 on the intake side. Also has a M11 on it. Made by Garrett.

What the hell is this thing?

Thanks

don't confuse the T3 Super 60 with the T3 60 trim (or a T3/60-1 for that matter). They're all different turbos. If you're looking for 300whp on a d16 i'd suggest a t3/t04e 50 trim with .48 a/r turbine (eh u could go .63 but laggier)

What the heck is the difference ? I have a .60/.63 airresearch/garrett that has a 60-trim compression... What is the difference vs a super 60 T-3 ?

My .63 wheel will fit in my .48 housing, and vise versa..

Maybe a thing like the mistu "G", "T", "B", and "A" wheels ? as in 14B, 15G, 18T.

no personal experience with that specific turbo. i know a few people who have used it personally, as well as other people on this board. I myself now use a t3 60 trim and when the new motor's assembled I'm going to use a t3/t04e 46 trim (my friend's old turbo). The 46 trim was actually spec'ed by TEC for my friend then i bought it off him. His setup was just pistons and rods though, no headwork. That's why I recommend the 50 trim if it is going on a fully built motor (thinking headwork as well as bottom end)

My brother use to use the T3/T4 .48/.50 and it worked awesome. It would easily support 300+. I would recommend it. Fully spools at like 3500. This was on a D16.

not to branch off on my own topic, but what is the difference between.......

t3/t4

t3/t04e

t3/t04b

I have seen all of these with the same a/r and compressor wheel trims so what is the dividing factor?

T3/T4 = T3 turbine mated to a T4 compressor

T3/T04E = T3 turbine mated to a T04E compressor
T3/T04B = T3 turbine mated to a T04B compressor
T3/60-1 = T3 turbine mated to a T04S compressor

IMO the B is overlooked because it is the small T4 compressor and does not offer the extra jump in top end power which most people are looking for when they decide to use a T4 compressor. The E series are probably the most popular on street cars with smaller engines.

I'm using a T28 (Big T25 turbine, 60 trim T3 compressor) on my setup (D16A1 aka DOHC D series).

If I can't meet my goals with this turbo, I plan on using a T3/T04E hybrid:
.48 a/r T3 turbine housing
Stage 3 T3 turbine wheel
.60 a/r T04E compressor housing
50 trim T04E compressor wheel

This turbo setup has been a proven performer on the D series engine. If you want more top end craziness at the expense of lag, you can use the larger .63 a/r turbine housing and use a 57 or 60 trim compressor wheel.
