Default How do you get the ground control sleeve off of a shock?

I bought some used ground controls/ kyb agx's last year and one of my shocks recently blew. So I bought a new one. I just cant figure out how to get the threaded sleeve part off of the old blown shock so that I can put it onto the new shock. Any help is appreciated.

pic of the new shock.. I wouldnt think there should be anything tricky in doing this.

I'm kindn of confused. I have the exact same setup as you, and my sleeves are not attached to the shocks. Were they pushed on and became stuck because of the weight of the car, like its squeezed in there? or did the person who did them before you weld their sleeve on or something? The sleeve shouldn't be attached at all by anything. It even fits somewhat loosely onto the shock.

the sleeve should just be sitting on the spring perch/collar. it shouldn't be too hard to remove...

Oh ok I didnt know that since I received the shocks/coilovers already assembled. Mine must've kinda squeezed itself onto the shock or something.. hammer and screwdriver should take care of that.

hmmm, well be careful. Basically the way it is assembled according to Ground Control's instructions is that there are 2 rubber O rings that go between the perch and the shock. All I can think is maybe they melted? But they should still be pliable. If the perch is really frozen in place, it is possible that the previous owner might have gotten creative and used some kind of adhesive to stick the perch in place

well the screwdriver + hammer idea worked. Those 2 black O rings were undamaged.. wasnt difficult at all.

I jsut swapped out my front shocks for 89 accord Tokico blues with the Ground Control sleeves... THe O rings expanded with wear and use, I guess, and mine were a PITA to get off, also. I just pulled hard, and off they came.

He can't weld the sleeve on the shock, sleeve is in Aluminium and chock are in steel/stainless for the best of them, you can found damper in aluminium but shock are more often in steel

hope this help
