ATTN:ALL people running header-tech About to order... bolting questions
Ok im about to order the header-tech ss 2.5 w/ reg collector ... and mate it too the carsound cat from hybrid garage. So from what i have seen headet tech headers uses a 3bolt flage on they collector... unlike the more common 2 bolt... so i called up hybride garage and they said they can custom the cat to a 3bolt flage if i wanted... well my question what the best way to do it...b/c wouldnt i still have to use the springs when connecting from the header -to- cat converter? so should i
a) get the cat conveter custom made to a 3 bolt flage on the header side so it can bolt up?
b)Have the header custom to fit a 2 bolt flage to the cat?
ne suggestions needed... thanks

Well my header is designed so that i dont have to use donut gaskets. Its flat and so is my extension peice.I got the 3" merge collector so im getting the 3" universal cat and ordered some extra flanges from Enzo.I havent done it yet but everything should work out perfectly.
so are u gonna bolt it up without using those springs(dunno the name of them
). Just the universal cat 3 bolt flage and bolt them both up together?

LOL... always thought your header will crack after awhile or something without ("The Springs) ...
ot: btw i dont know what those "springs" are for ne way...
DoH!

Then i cant do that... mines a daily driver... maybe then imma run the 3bolt flange on the cat and just have 3springs with it when i bolt it up... i dunno whats the best way to go bout this ..
but then again if i someone can clarify what "the springs" functions are.., and that i can disregard it then maybe i can forget bout it too

The spring bolts are designed to allow flex like a joint when the engine moves under torque. Without them or without some kind of flex pipe you'll most likely crack the header after a while in a everyday use situation
Imma run a flex pipe welded to the carsound cat... and put flages onto the flex pipe to bolt it on to the header...
so from back to front of car its gonna go like this
Exhaust-carsoundcat + flexpipe(welded together)-header

Why cant you have have them make you the three bolt flange to connect to the header and then use the spring bolts as you would on a 2 bolt flange? Or can you not use the spring bolts on a 3 bolt flange?

i actually dunno i was assuming i would work the same.. then im guessing that would be easier ..buying 1 spring bolt... but then again i would be also take longer to unbolt if i wanna run open header... so can u run 3 spring bolts on a 3 bolt flange??... can somebody verify?

im sure any machine shop has some extra valve springs they dont need anymore.
i have my 140k mileage gsr valve spring on my header to cat flange right now
either that or toss em

Yeh, what he said.
3 bolt flanges are made for gaskets not as flex points.

So its safe to say ... im better off using a flex pipe to connect to the header then 3 spring bolts?... correct? :

Bump because I'd like to know. It seems logical to do what you said and go header-flex pipe+cat-exhaust. I never thought of that when I first looked at the header techs.
