Hesitation at low rpms
My friend has an s2000 and he is having stuttering/hestitation problems.
" Car is hesitating when you let go of the clutch. Then after rpm is above 3-4k it runs smoother. It is running like it would if it had bad plugs"
what could be the problems? search feature had no query for "hestitation" in s2000 forum

Take a wrench, or even a pen, just something to 'tap' on top of the map sensor. Sometimes grime collects and it causes the map sensor to read incorrectly, thus studdering when accellerating in low rpms.
ITR - cars don't bog due to gearing.

I think there is an update on the coil packs or plugs on the s2000. Not sure of the year but I'm pretty sure it's the plugs that get the update. See your local Honda dealership for details and to see if you qualify for the update.
There is a TSB on the plugs, go to the dealer and they will replace them with new plugs, platinum of course..for free.... search S2Ki.com for this TSB...

Ok. I just looked on ISIS from in.honda.com. It's for S2000's from 2002 and earlier (not all). The nature of the product update is for misfiring. So that's probably not the cause of his problem because the MIL is not illuminated on your friends car. I'll keep searching for hesitation problems.

VTEC ENGINE HESITATES DURING ACCELERATION

If your customer complains that the engine hesitates briefly when accelerating, chances are the ECM/PCM is ordering fuel cutoff because of low or delayed engine oil pressure to the VTEC system. Typical causes for low or delayed oil pressure are low oil level, a dented oil pan that's touching the oil pickup screen, or some oil flow resrcition.
Oil pressure should immediatly turn off the VTEC oil pressure switch. But, if the pressure switch stays on (because of low oil pressure), the ECM/PCM orders fuel cutoff and shuts off all the fuel injectors. Normally the ECM/PCM turns on the MIL and sets DTC P1259 (VTEC system malfunction). But if the oil pressure switch turns off the ECM/PCM sets the DTC, the engine hesitates and then runs normally.
To fix this engine hesitation, troubleshoot the oil level or the oil supply problem.

Okay, his problem may be caused by something totally different.
I was talking about the slight bog the S2000 has after engaging the clutch at low RPM. I hear it is due to the stock final drive gearing and the S2K's lack of low end torque.

nope. gearing is gearing. and that is just consistent unless you have serious problems with a clutch type of rear end in which the pinion spins and the ring doesn't due to a failed diff. however, that would be among all rpm ranges, not just in the lower rpm range.
even if you heard someone's opinion or take on this, just sit back and think about it for a minute - because it makes no sense.

I stand corrected!
