not goin into gear easily
I just bought a 98 accord ex with 126k. when i first got the car, it was fine. But after i went for an oil change and tranny oil change i began to notcie that the car doesnt go into ANY gear easily. When i first start the car up and go to put the car in 1st, it gives me a hard time. i gotta go into 2nd or 3rd then go to 1st then it goes in easy. after about 15-20 min of driving, i notice that it doesnt give me a problem anymore. does it sound like a clutch problem? or maybe the gear oil? cuz after the car heats up it dont do it anymore. (((the clutch still grabs very good, the car was all highway miles)))

Mine is doing something similar but it is giving me a hard time with only 1st 3rd and 5th. When I try and go into first it gives me the most trouble and doesn't go in easily. sometimes I have to push and let off the clutch a little just to get it into first. Third feels a little like first does but I have to wait until I feel it go in before I let off the clutch. Fifth is the same as third. Does this sound similar to the problem described above and if so is it fixable by the fluid check or does it sound more serious?

In the past 24hrs I've noticed that if the car is rolling a bit it will go into 1st a little easier. 3rd is getting trickier as I'll be shifting from 2nd to 3rd and it feels as if it goes into gear but if I let off the clutch and give it a little gas it grinds as if it's not in gear. It doesn't do this if I let off the clutch and allow it to decelerate a bit then give it some gas.
Also the clutch is hydrolic so it's self adjusting. I'm going to have my mechanic check it out. Perhaps it does need a drain and refill. I don't believe it's the syncros because I've had a syncro go out on a similar tranny and this feels different. Once I get it into gear it's fine. But it's just an issue of getting it into gear and having to check to make sure it's in gear which I'm finding odd.
In case someone else is having the same problem, it turned out to be a bad shifter cable. Problem was resolved by swapping out the cable which was frayed and absorbing energy when I attempted to shift into the odd (upward) gears (1,3 and 5). If anyone else experiences the type of problem I described above, check your shifter cable.
