Low idle when AC is on.
When I am sitting at a redlight with the AC on the car idles real low for about 30 seconds than goes right to normal (about 1000rpm). It gets as low as 100rpm and the car shakes a little bit. It happens everytime I stop. Just wondering if it is normal or if I should mess with the idle or what to do. With the AC off the car idles normal and is just fine. Help would be greatly appreciated.
My car does this, minus the shake.
And, if I don't give it more than enough gas and try to engage the clutch <1000rpm (when the a/c is on), i get the shake you are talking about.
I'm guess it is just a big drain on such a small engine. I personally wouldn't worry about it.

My car does the same thing (low idle with shaking) especially if i turn the A/C on without getting the car full warm. When i say full warm i mean driving for 15 minutes on highway or so. After that the car idles fine with the A/C on. I think most of our cars do this.

100 rpm? that's low!
mine will vary between 1000rpm w/ ac compressor cycled on and 600-700rpm when it cycles off.
you sure it's 100rpm?

Yeah I'm sure. It will drop to the second little line on the tach. If it isnt 100 its low nontheless.

But its normal for the rpms to drop 100rpms.</TD></TR></TABLE>
??? You sure about that? Maybe on your tach, but your tach would be off a bit if that's the case.
Your idle should increase when the compressor turns on. If it doesn't, then there might be a problem. On my old Celica, instead of increasing, it dropped 2-300 rpm because the A/C idle up switch was bad. I'm not sure if the Integra has anything similar to that, but the problem might be somewhere along those lines if it's as severe as you describe it. Some harshness is normal though, unfortunately. That's the nature of a 4 cyl.

actually, unless I'm mistaken, the higher idle(1000) is when the a/c compressor is engaged. the lower idle(750) is when the compressor is disengaged.
there should be a run up idle circuit when the ac is engaged. that's why I was asking what the poster's idle was when the ac was turned off.

Here's how my car acts.
The car idles at 1000rpm when the ac is off.
I turn on the ac and it drops to about the first couple lines on the tach.
after about 20 seconds the idle goes back to 1000rpm
When I stop again it does it all over.
The only reason why I have a concern is because I dont remember having a problem last summer. It is probably normal but I wanted to ask and make sure.

according to the helms, idle with a fully warmed car and no ac on should be about 800-850. With AC on, it should be 1,050 +/-50 rpm.
I just went outside checked my car and yes, these are the numbers I get, too. so, when the AC compressor is engaged, the idle should be higher(1050) than when you have the ac off(800).
sounds like your idle up circuit is out. I looked in the helms but was unable to find any info on this.... sorry. anyone else know something about this?
