Smoking Problem
My car started to puff a little black smoke the other day, and i figured it would only get worse, so i was wondering how hard it is to change the head gasket and piston rings? If there's any other seals that needa be changed let me know... Or i thought about just putting a different head on it to take away this problem, and also have a little more power, its a 1.5 auto, what other heads will mate with the block?

as far as what other heads will fit the 1.5 I am not too sure. if you really want to keep this motor, then you could always go through and replace the seals/gaskets, but I am assuming that the car has relatively high mileage & the 1.5 isn't the best motor out there, so......that being said, you could always get a cheap d series motor, i.e. zc, d16a6/z6/y8 and have a newer motor w/ more power. hth at last some.
Might want to check or replace your o2 sensor, it may not be completely bad so its not causing a cel but could be on its way out causing you to run rich.

Your not burning oil if your exhaust is black. Black smoke is when the engine is running really rich, like Sandoz stated earlier. Oil burns to a white/grey color and smells nasty.
any d-series head will fit. i had the a6 head on my 1.5. replacing the rings is a pain. if you were going that far, replace the bearings too. i'm speaking from experience here. i re-ringed my 1.5, didn't replace the bearings, and was shopping for a new motor 5k miles later. drop in a newer more powerful motor, do the manual conversion, and be done with it. you'll save yourself a lot of hassle
After rebuilding a motor properly, you will have spent more money then it would take to pucrchase a low milage motor from a shop on the internet. I was thinking about rebuilding my motor, but then decided to get a JDM D15b from Hmotorsonline. You will be MUCH happer with this decision.

you know- that is most likely the cause, I can't believe I didn't say that
i just had to replace my o2 like a month ago too
thanks blah

well, as was pointed out earlier your car can run rich causing black smoke. It's not too expensive of a fix. Your ECU could potentially throw a code as well. It's worth a shot.
