Turbo b16 would be my vote....lol
it's really hard to get 230-250hp in a b-series engine without boost or Nitrous, I'm not sure about how much hp you would get from a boosted d15 or d16.

you're gonna need a damn a lot of work on a b16 all motor if you want 230+ whp, and sure it wont pass smog. i think d16 turbo would be less farfetched on the hp and smog things.
You could reach your goal for $4000 with a turbo setup. It would cost you $12000 and a lot of downtime to get 230 with a B16. And it won't be smog legal.
230 isn't to hard to get out of a b16 or 18.
I hate turbos, (not saying I don't work on them) everyone and there cousins honda has a turbo. I like my all motor crx.

230 from a b16 and being smog legal, maybe when you wake up from your dream you can pull it off. That will NEVER HAPPEN, not in CA atleast. (considering you do legal smog and not some illegal stuff
)
I'd go b16 turbo. Still wont be smog legal, but it will make more power than b16 NA and d16 turbo.

trust me...you will not get to 230+ HP all motor with a B16...smog, or no smog...
guys with GSR motors spend thousands and thousands with all-motor stuff and are so happy when they break the 200HP line...
btw..i have an all motor GSR

If reliability is of importance, go all-motor. But now with a b16. I'd rather go with a non-vtec crv motor then a 1.6L. that's retarded....
For about 4500.00 total you can have a 190whp ls/vtec that will be reliable and you'll be able to run high 12's in a light hatchback.

You have a 240hp all motor b16? I have a couple question.
1: What octane gas are you using?
2: Do you use it as a daliy driver?
3: If 3 is a yes, how did you pull off something guys with larger displacement b-series engine would kill to do?
4:If 3 is no, then what do you use it for?

120 unleaded sunoco
Yes daily driver, registered and almost street legal.
Its all about the weight reduction, and big head work (lots of welding and grinding).

Do you have a dyno sheet to prove it?
What about it makes it "almost" legal?
How much does Sunoco 120 octane gas cost per gallon?

Yes, I have a dyno sheet.
120 is 78.00 per 5 gallons
Almost street leagal is: Gutted, lexan, loud, no dash, no cat, no DOT tires, but I can drive it down the road and not get pulled over.

How does weight reduction help you make more hp?
So this car that make 240hp out of a b16 n/a is your daily driver, on none dot tires with a gutted interior, with lexan windows no dash and your paying $156 or more for a tank of gas?
Doesn't sound to believable to me..

Brother...I think if you wish to continue this conversation...and to prove youre credibility...you need to post the pics of your dyno sheet...a 1/4 mile timeslip and a pic of the engine, you and the car. There are alot of Bullshitters out there and we cant be too careful.

tmekjian,
you can easily make 200 whp with a b18c and be very reliable. My motor set up has been running for about 2 years now and so far no problems at all and I didnt spend 1000s of $ on it either. You just have to put the right parts together. Accourse it wont pass smog.
