Default B18C1 questions about bore, setup etc...

I just got a 96 b18c1 short block that was sitting without a head for a few months and there is major rust in above all pistons. Last night, I took every off the block but the pistons+rods. After taping with hammer a few times, I didn't see any movement on any of them. I know that if I use my 3lb hammer I will eventually get them out but I don't want to do more damage to the cylinders.

Here are my questions: Please take into account that I want to stay N/A and run probably CTR or ITR pistons/rods.

1) What would be the best way to get those pistons out with less damage on the walls? They are stuck with rust.

2) Most likely I assume the block will need to be bored. Can the head remain stock if I bore to a +0.25mm ?

3)While at the machine shop, I have the options of blasting or acid diping the block, turning the crank, balancing flywheel, pstions, rods.... Anything else I should consider?

4) I don't have a head yet. Can you please recommend a setup that would produce same power as a stock b18c5? I think it;s time to start calling the poor man/s type-r, the smart man's type-r

I really would greatly appreciate any feedback.

I just want a good motor with power. No drag, no auto-x, just a good daily driver (94 CX)

THANK YOU!!

WD-40 the cylinders

Use a b16 head, same casting as ITR head.

Take it to the machine shop. If you marr the cylinders getting pissed off at those pistons, you might have to bore to the point that ITR/ CTR pistons will be too small.

CLR, that stuff that they used to advertise on TV. You can get it at Wal-mart in the household cleaning products. I have used it on all kinds of stuff and it works lie crazy. My dad had a Harley rim that had been sitting for 10 years and it made it look new. Just double-check that it is safe for aluminum. I am pretty sure it is.

Are CTR/ITR pistons what you are rock solid on? If not, you can just hammer the pistons out and bore the cylinders to a bigger bore and get aftermarket pistons.

Installing new bearings?

Thanks for taking the time to answer man.

After one whole hour of pounding, I got them out.... Cylinder walls look pretty good.

Tomorrow I am taking it to the machine shop.

This morning I took the b18c1 block to the machine shop to get measured.

The shop manual states:

Service Limits:81.07mm (3.192in)

Well, my block measures 3.193-3.194

1)I guess I will have to oversize to 81.25mm. Would bigger rings help me retain my current bore?

2) I am thinking about CTR pistons. What rods do you recommend?

3)I have read some good feeback on people using p30(jdmb16) pistons with a b18c1/c5 block and b16/itr head. Compression comes out to be 11.3.

Please let me know, your thoughts on this matter. THANK YOU~!

Note: I don't have a head for the block yet but please assume itr/b16 head with stock internals.
