3000 rpm rattle help needed
hey I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have a 92si and for the past few months I've noticed a rattle or vibration coming from the engine bay when I hit 3000-3200 rpms - the noise only occurs in that rpm range. I took the valve cover off and checked the valve clearances.. 3 of them were ok but the 2nd cylinder was off a little bit. I was going to adjust it but the locking nut on the adjustment screw was really on there and i didn't want to break anything. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has heard of a problem like this or knows if that valve being off would cause the sound. I read about a timing tensioner rattle somewhere but I thought that only happened on 5th gens.
are u sure its in the engine itself? valves or sumthing?
cause i was all paranoid about rattles...butt
on my gsr i had a rattle....it was from the heat shield...and the piece of the header always moved at that rpm....soo i just got a new header...i dont' know if its that but....u can look for it around the heat shielding....

Engine mount, belt tensioner, or perhaps exhaust heat shield ?
I had a worn engine mount on my 86 Integra sounded like a damn beer can rattling around in the engine bay at certain (3k) rpm
Hopefully it is not related to the A-pipe rattle commmon to Integra GSR's.
Try a stethascope and have a friend rev it up while you listen.
Good luck amigo...

i'm definitely hearing the exhaust rattle on idle now too... and when i start the car up. sounds like it is coming from the braided metal part of the header, but i haven't ruled out the belt tensioner or heat shield. i'm thinking about just taking it in to a muffler shop and having them take a look at it..
