Default b16a1 major problems

Just finished installing a b16a1 into my 89 hf, and the engine runs like total crap. It is throwing code 6 which is engine coolant sensor. Also, my VTEC only kicks in sometimes. Somtimes I can turn it on and it runs fine, but then when I put it in reverse the check engine light comes on and it give me code 6 and start to run like crap again. Any suggestions on what problems it could be before I take it to the shop?

I would double check your wiring and make sure everything is plugged into the right place. Also, make sure all your grounds are nice and secure.

Cut wire b9 by the ecu, that will fix your problem.

Make sure your wiring is correct and the right sensor is on the right clip, the coolant sensor can be switched with another sensor right by it. So make sure you don't have that switched around.

Mine had the exact same problem. You have to cut B9 at the ecu, and it will solve everything. It's only required if you have an HF though. Make sure to reset your ecu afterwards.
