hey guys im piecing together my turbo kit and bought a few misc. nuts and bolts and stuff. My question is do I need HI-temp hardware since its going to be in the engine bay or will hardware from like home depot work fine? I hear some stuff heats up and expands or something.. lmk. TIA

 

best thing u can do is use studs/lockwashers @ all places possible. I used stainless steel downpipe bolts and they expand when they heat up. It was nice cause they never came out again, but when I had to take the downpipe off it WAS A BITCH X 2! they expanded so much I couldn't break them loose. Stainless steel strips easily so I ended up taking my radiator out so I could get a big *** mexican speed wrench on them to break them loose. after that I went v-band and im loving every minute of it. but yeh, studs/lockwashers I would use high-temp studs in the turbo manifold if u can.

What is a "high temp stud" ? Someone talked about this last year and I think it was just a misconception that such a thing exists. There is no heat resistant steel ......just different grades of hardness and types. ie stainless or a grade 8 etc.

ur probably right. I just went to the local specialized hardware store and I told them I needed a stud to handle 800degrees Celcius. they were like and they hooked me up w/ these nice pretty gold ones. I ended up not using them though cause I changed set ups.
