Default Removing spoiler, removing "Type-R" Stickers

Ok, well I decided that I don't want my car to be a target at school when i park amongst the rest of the student body...have any of you guys removed ur spoiler and stickers? how hard was it and how do i do it? What do i use to plug the holes left by the spoiler?

Any other suggestions to de-R my car so that I don't become the victim of keying, vandalism, wheel robbery, or worst of all, car theft??

i have an alarm and all the goodies but im talking cosmetically...
thanks a bunch

i was thinking of removing my spoiler, and actually tried. i removed the bolts and everything, but i think there's a thick layer of sticky tape or some goo that also holds the wing on. after i found that out, i just said forget it and put everything back together. if someone can verify this or wahtever else is holding on the wing, pls let me know, im curious too.

edit: didnt feel like reposting so im adding on in response below...

I am just worried because my friend from las year had an eclipse GSX and someone tore off his wing one day. I dont want it happening to me ya know? Besides its gonna be snowing for the majority of the time im at school anyway, so whatever, i'mm gonna have steel wheels on w/ hubcaps lol

Personally i think removing the stickers and spoilers is pointless. Two type R's went to my high school and they didnt get fucked with. If someone wants your **** bad enough. they will get it. Taking off some stickers and a spoiler is not going to stop that. Lets see here.. 1,2.3, 4. NOPE 5 lugs i see on that. And the redline, interior, shift ****... there is just so manything things that say TYPE R, why bring down your car cosmetically to stay "sleeper" in an Integra type r. its not exactly a cx hb.. anyways. my opinion. good luck. people who steal and **** with cars are worthless. i wish u the best of luck.

There is two-sided foam tape between the wing and the deck lid. It's not that hard to get off and is easily replaced. The adhesive is very very sticky though.

I did this the day i bought the car. To remove the rear wing there are a few things you have to do. First remove the 4 bolts that hold the spoiler on. Then take floss and place it between the wind and the trunk lid. Then, with a sawing motion, cut the foam in between the wing and the lid with the floss. Make sure to pull the floss up as you are cutting also, as to not let the floss rub on the lid, only the wing. Once you are done with that, there will still be some sticky foam in between the two bolts, this can simply be pulled a part, just take your time and dont just yank it off. Once that is done, there will be some nasty foam left over on the trunk lid, simly peal it off with your finger (rub it with some downward force and it should roll up under your finger). Then wash and wax the area where the foam was. I had to use some mineral spirits to clean some of the left over glue off.

As for the stickers, they were a pain in the goat ***. I had to peal them off using my finger nail. Once i got one of the cornors started, I simply pulled it off. However, only the plastic pulled off, leaving all the glue on the car. To get the glue off, I put some mineral spirits on a rag and rubed in on the glue. Let is sit for a few seconds then rubed it off. Did it one more time after that. Then I was able to rub off the glue, just like I did the foam for the fin. I had to rub part of it off, then do the mineral spirits thing again, then rub some more, then more mineral spirits, you got the point. Took me almost and hour to get all the glue off. Then once the glue is off, wash and wax the area where the stickers were. Mine left no scratches at all where the stickers were. I did get a few scratches where the fin was, but that can be buffed out. Hope this helps

Unless you're planning on taking everything off (i.e. wing, stickers, red "A" emblem) don't do it. If you do it part way, everyone knows what it is. Also, if you plan on taking things off, get a set of rims that seal the 5-lug pattern.

See i left the emblems on. I think it looks very good this way. The reason for removing the stuff, was not to make it a sleeper, but because I did not like it. The fin is just in the way and the stickers were and eye sore to me. I wanted to remove them, so I did.

Why? Just keep the wing and stickers on the car! you have insurance for a reason.

Whats wrong with you guys is this a joke or what?!?! By removing the spoiler on the R you will have less downforce on high speed!!!! The front spoiler and the rear spoiler gives the R 30% more downforce! Think about it. The spoiler is NOT for show, there is a reason why Honda-engineers put them on!

I'll fight the rear spoiler argument. I do not drive at speeds to fully utilize the wing, period. I like the look without it, and I like the no sticker look. I didn't take it off to deter thieves, yes, that is what insurance is for. People who know what an R is, just know. My R is still an R, just not cosmetically

Very true, sure I get it up to over 100 mph every day, but I did not notice any change in performance from when I had it on. I drove 1200 miles (the drive home from the dealer in PA) with the wing on, then I took the wing off the next day. Did not notice any changes at all. I think it is there for looks, I mean even realtime racing takes it off and puts a different wing on (I believe there site said something about this).

My stickers were gone the day I got it home. I can live with the wing. Keeps em guessing, because most fools can't tell a real R from any other Teg. I didn't have to worry about my emblems, because they were stolen just a few weeks after getting the car. The one on the back is now an upside down "A" from a regular teg thanks to the body shop that just decided to put it on, and upside down. Nothing on the front but holes.

Hey, wingless R
First off - Phat ride - mines yellow too. It actually does look better sans fin.

Second - you left one of the w's in www. off of your link. Might want to fix that.

Thanks Mo Speed ITR583 , but I don't have the Prelude wheels on anymore, they're kinda heavy, but good for when your car goes into the shop.
fixed

You can use fishing line instead of floss and it helps to have a friend pulling up on the wing gently while you are sawing back and forth. A little solvent will remove the adhesive just wax up when you are done. You do not have to use the double sided foam tape that Honda uses, you can use one sided foam tape on just the wing and then you can bolt and unbolt as you please and the foam on the wing will protect your paint on the hatch. You can find little rubber plugs to put in the holes at any store that sells autobody supplies. To remove the decals use a hair dryer or if you are VERY!! careful a heat gun to gently warm up the adhesive
as you pull back from a corner. The Honda decals tend to leave a lot of adhesive behind but again a little solvent and some wax will look after that.

I have never read or heard that the spoiler or wing has added 30% more downforce to the R. I have however read that the spoiler and wing have improved the co-efficient of drag by .03 which is in effect allowing the car to pass through the air more smoothly. Our wing does not have enough area to produce a third of a G of downforce .

Thanks for the info guys...I know that that's why there's insurance but i think its better to take it off and not worry then to be like sitting in class or in ur room and be thinking "dang i hope no one is stealing my wing right now" and stuff like that. Thanks to a nameless archeologist from the 1920s played by harrison ford COUGH indy...i'm severely paranoid, and also thanks to those ******* car thieves that keep stealing R's from ny ...i guess i'll leave it for now but if anything happens, spoiler and stickers are coming off and im putting on gsr badging
