Stripped tranny tread so my bolt is not going correctly. I’m leaking tranny fluid now what should I do?

 

If im correct your talking about the drain bolt. You might be able to tap the threads. The problem is if you try to tap the threads you have to make sure you get all the shavings out of the tranny. Another problem you might encounter is that even if you tap the hole, the threads might still be too weak to hold the bolt in to torque specs.

 

Ohh yeah if the threads are a little weak and you absolutly need to drive the car. After you tap the hole you can put plumbers teflon tape around the bolt and thread it back in. This will keep any fluids from leaking out and give the threads in the hole more to bite down on.

Ok, so which bolt is it? I know that the tranny housing is some kind of cast metal. I've heard that you cannot weld cast metal, correct me if im wrong.

What bolt is it first, like wheres it at? Is it one of the housing bolts? What were you doing when you took it off?

 

it's on the right of the drain plug the bigger one

 

So its going in unevenly right. Then go out with the bolt in hand to a hardware store or tool store, find a tap (it looks like a screw with sections cut out of it) thats the same thread pitch and size as the bolt. Go to your tranny and screw the tap in straight. The tap basically cuts new threads into the metal. Usually you can get a small set of taps that come with a handle thatll help you make sure you screw it in straight. Then all you have to do is shove that bitch back in. Once that is done I'd probably change out the fluid because metal shavings might have gotten into the tranny.

spend my day going around town looking for a tap. i went to home depot other tool shops too and still have not yet manage to 1ich tap for my tranny. i even went to a machine shop and they could not do it too. any other suggestion? i need help badly

 

bump
