y1 LSD fitment question
I have a Y1 tranny and the syncros are way gone, I bought a S1 from a 91 integra, and want to know if the LSD out of the y1 will fit the s1. Does anyone know? Thanks allot in advance. Oh just because I know that someone is going to ask, I want a longer gear ratio, I hardly get traction as it is now, and its only going to get worse when I put the turbo on.
Thanks in advance
Rob

Rob,
sorry - I didn't mean to come off so rude. I appologize for that.
Here is the link I had in mind concerning the Y1 LSD:

The Y1 lsd is a bit of an oddball, and the ring gear is NOT swappable. Actually,
its not even a real ring gear. The gear and half of the lsd housing are cast
together.
...
The Y1 trannies have the 4.266 final drive, regardless of whether its LSD or not.
The S1/J1s the usdm S1/A1 ls trans all have 4.4 final drives (i belive that they
did not start using 4.266 finals in ls trans until after 91).
The only way to use the Y1 lsd is to also use the matching countershaft. The
countershaft will have the 1st gear cast into it, so using the y1 1st gearset it
neccesary too.
Let me know what other info you need, i have personally had my hands in all
of these trannies, and have parts and busted tranny cases laying all over my
shed</TD></TR></TABLE>

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
92-93 cable trans ONLY (LS,GSR,B16)
yep i have an ITR diff'ed cable ys1 now it was very easy
step 1 open tranny remove the gear sets and the diff (you should have a helms)
step 2 Get an alum porting bit or dremel and grind down the ballfles around the diff
step 3 Get ITR diff and GSR FD and place it in w proper bearings and clearances (helms)
step 4 take LS gears off the main shaft and place on gsr mainshaft (gear pullers req. and a HELMS!!)
Step 5 replace gear sets and shift mechanisms
Step 6 close trans, install, fill
Step 7 do 2 wheel'd burnouts in second O_O
slightly over simplified
but it does work!!
