84.5 bore GSR
I just got my darton sleeves installed and now I need to hurry up and get pistons. I was really wanting to go with Weisco Import Builder's spec 84.5mm @ 11.8:1. But when I was talking to a guy at the local shop he said that that was too big of a bore, and he wouldn't recommend going over 82mm. He said once you go bigger then that piston slap becomes a major issue, and the motor will not last that long. Now I know that I have seen many people do this, so am I wrong with trying to go with this setup? I need to order pistons ASAP but I want to make sure I get the correct ones the first time. And, if I don't go with 84.5, what was the point of sleeveing the motor? I'm just kinda lost right now...
Do your self a favor, don't get anything done by that machine shop.84.5mm bore is fine.I have friends with 85,85.5 even 86.Piston slap occurs when piston to wall clearance TOO much.Only get your machining work by reputable machine shops
It wasn't the machine shop telling me this, it was the speed shop. The machine shop said I could go all the way to 85mm if I wanted. But then I had a contradiction of opinions between the shop, so that's why I posted this here.
The speed shop probably said that bore was to big because they either dont you know re-sleeved or dont even know what it is.Maybe you should start out with 83mm-84mm just in case something happens it leaves you room to bore out some more.If you go to big the first time and theres a problem then your gonna have to resleeve again.
No dont worry your fine, 84.5mm if your sleeved that is. Now all you need to do is buy some b20(size) pistons because those are 84.5 hence the 2.0bore.
I wouldnt do an 83mm or 82mm or what ever else cuz then you have to get custom sized pistons.... just go 2.0 and youll be happy

I am planning to use the Darton 84mm sleeve kit on my B18A block...I was thinking of using the JE B20 block to B16 head pistons...where did you purchase your sleeves from? Raceeng.com wants $499 for them...also, got a quote from a local machine shop here for $300 to install (seems too cheap to me tho')...I was wondering what you spent on your setup

I bought the short block minus pistons for $1300, that is with new sleeves, micro-polished crank and Eagle rods. My freind was building the motor for his teg, but wrecked the teg and bought a RX-7. So I basicly bought his unfinished project.
