Default Couple quickies...

I have a D15B7 in my 89 hatch. Everything runs fine in it (now...) going down the road. But I still have a few problems and questions.

1. After downshifting to a stop (its a habit....), the car idles at about 2k. After I give the gas a little tap, it goes down to about 1100.

2. Starting it up is insane... I blamed the plugs (NGK, don't know what kind) and thought that it was because they run hotter than stock, and need to be warmed up. Usually it takes about 5 seconds of turning over without me giving it any gas, and then it barely starts up. When I give it some gas it hesitates and the intake sounds like I just hit about 4k when its actually struggling to get further than 1500. Choke doesn't seem to help, but after about a 6k rev, its usually good to go.

3. Why is the lettering on the cruise control buttons on my JDM steering wheel in English? Heh.

4. My CEL is on all the time. I think somethings wrong with my TPS ( refer to #1 and 2...), but I don't know how to get codes. Do you need a code reader like domestic cars? My ECU light blinks so many times, stops, and does it again. Is that how you tell or what?

5. I don't even know how to tell if a head is VTEC or not. I don't know what to look for or anything, but every other D15B7 I've seen has a grey valve cover, mines black. (I've only had the car for about 2 months) The guy before me seemed to know what he was doing, and he didn't put too much stuff on the car just for looks. So if someone could help me with how to tell if its VTEC or not.

My link is in my sig if that helps any. Its the Civic HB at the bottom. Thanks.

you don't know **** about cars, and you're out streetracing...... *sigh*
streetracing a car that you hadn't even ever driven before. i'd get that link out of your signature really quick, and re-think your driving habits. the stuff written in the link makes you look like an idiot.

Why do you have to do that? Really. I guarantee you were just like me when you first started out. Whatever dude. All I had was a few simple questions that any other person with a Honda could answer. Why do you have to act all righteous about me being interested in something? Just get off my back about stupid ****. I know I'm not the best builder/racer/whatever, but I'm learning how to be. Not just this forum, I'm apprentacing, I guess you could say at a shop and learning as I go along. You can't judge me for that.

Well, on the internet, that's all we have to go on. Your site makes you look foolish, but don't worry we all started in your shoes.

Count how many blinks are coming off the ECU. Don't count the first one. And just count one set. Most it can be is 20....

OK- 1st go read the ECU's codes- on the passenger side floor board (in the cabin) you will need to pull the carpet back by removing the plastic clips/screws on teh side of teh carpet (near the door) once you have done this you will see a boz on teh floor w/ a little LED window on it- turn the key to teh accesory position & see how many times the ECU blinks- viola you are now seeing what codes the ECU is throwing. If you are getting teh TPS code it could be a bad TPS, or teh TPS is just in the wrong position/angle. As far as the idle is concerned- how did you adjust the idle? If you just adjusted the throttle cable instead of teh idle screwq it would cause it to idle the way you have described. Now starting- your starter could be going out, other then that- I dunno. Now go get a Helms manual & start to figure this crap out for yourself. Have fun

*Edit* sorry for the bad formatting, no paragraphs, etc. I'm feeling lazy today
