Default Estimate on a LS swap?

Hey guys can someone give me a ruff figure on a LS swap with a tranny in a 90 Civic on the East coast. What are the engines going for and how about trannys? What are shops charging for installs also?

Not sure how close you are to lansdale, but check out ground level customs... http://www.glcustoms.com

good guys... just got some work done there yesterday. I know they do swaps... I would shoot them an email. Tell em Justin Nolan sent ya They do everything from state inspections, to swaps, to body kit molding, to paint, etc etc.

you can get a 94+ ls for about 600
i would goahead w a b16 cable tranny (200-500 depending on your luck)
i have a b16 tranny w my ls and its accelerates alot quicker than before w the ls tranny

isnt the point of having an LS to have the low end torque? using a b16 tranny will keep u in higher RPMs. I would just go with the wider geared LS tranny. IMO

didnt realize LS swaps were so cheap.

He said into a 90 civic. No way you could do that 1k installed. Parts alone will be 1k... cant forget about b-series motor mounts, shift linkage, etc etc.

I paid $700 for mine including YS1 tranny , 92 LS motor, ECU, axles, shift linkage. The only thing it didn' include was the mounts. The guy I bought it off was a moron and had the swap done by some shop and they charged him an *** load but someone rear-ended him and his car got totaled out.

Thanks for the info guys, if I do anything it is going to be after the winter. I want to go for a LS so I can use my Zdyne I just bought and use the Greddy turbo I am using on the ZC. I heard it would mount right up to a LS.

ls's engines are faster than b16s on the low end
they are really reliable

ive put a total of about 7k into my EF building it into a track car using a b18b and a usdm ys1 tranny

buy the conversion harness if you want to run obd1 i didnt and i regret it

I wouldn't pay anymore than 1k for the motor trans and ecu especially if it is a 90-91 B18a. I would only pay close to 1k if the car had very low miles on it otherwise i would try to pay less depending on the mileage.

I would say rougly about 2000-3000 for parts and installation. maybe considering you might have to replace certain parts, and run into other problems. hope that helps. " these are just quick estimates. dont knock on the prices"

700-1300 LS w/tranny
300-mounts
200-250 axles
100-150- ecu
400-500 installation
100-150 obd0-obd1 harness
???? water pump, t belt replacement and other little problems you run into .

depends which ls motor you get,

b18a's go for about 50-300 bucks
b18b's anywhere from 400-600 bucks for the longblock
trannies is going to be a pain in the *** to located, b series cable trannies are harder and harder to find nowadays and depending on which one, they can go for up to 600 bucks. All depends on where you got your motor from, i got 2 b18a longblocks for 400 bucks, ben found a b18a at the yard for 50 bucks. Depends on where you look to buy it.

It looks like the dollar amounts run all over the place!

I'm planning on doing an LS swap in my 89 SI and here is what I've seen;

I live in Los Angeles and it would appear that where you live does effect cost alot. I'm planning on doing the work myself and have no idea what labor costs would be.

The mounts, modified loom, modified shifter, etc. will set you back about 500 bucks.

Things like a new timing belt, water pump, seals, clutch, etc. should set you back another couple hundred.

In talking to local junk yards, a "complete conversion" LS set-up goes for around 1800 bucks. This includes all the Accura (used) parts you would need.

When you talk about individual parts, it tends to get real costly!!! I found an LS 5 speed transmission for 500 bucks. This sounds like a reasonable price, but then the yard wanted an additional 300 for the intermediate shaft and axles. He wanted another 150 for the shift linkage.

What I'm getting at is that when somebody says that you can get an engine for 350 to 500, that may be true. However it's only a very small percentage of the total list of things you wil need!!!!

It adds up to more than you guys think.
Motor and tranny $700
motor mount kit $350
Shift linkage $200
Stock clutch $200
Waterpump $40
Timing belt $40 from Napa
Axles $100
ECU $100
Thats around $1700 bucks for parts.

Well I think you paid to much then. I paid $500 for my B18a from a junkyard in town with 50k miles. I saw the car it was in and the odometer. I got the tranny cheap from a friend since it grinds into third and now second. 1k is the most I would have paid for motor and tranny.

I paid under 1 grand for my complete swap, took me a while to get everything completely together. and everything is in perfect condition and running great, I even have a spare b18a longblock which i bought for under 400 bucks. My friend was at a yard in philadelphia and spotted a b18a which was 50 bucks. Longblocks at any yard go for under 200 bucks, at mines its 125 at my friends its 50. Condition ofcourse will vary, but its very possible and viable to find a cheap b18a in good condition.

WuShu;

I've got to ask; where do you live? Here in California, except for real old cars, Hondas (and Accuras) almost always go to a yard that "specalizes" in Hondas. They know what they have and price it as such. You would NEVER find a reasonable B18 in a "Pick-A-Part" type yard around here.

I live in maryland and believe me the yards around here know what they have as well, however the guys working there arent all honda experts, they cant tell a d16 from a b18a, plus they get hundreds of cars going through there, they canot sit there and label each motor as a b18a or a d16 or a big block, so they only charge 1 straight fee for all longblocks. Im guessing you go to yards that have majority of hondas, if that is all the yard deals with then yes they will know exactly what to charge for them, if you hit big general yards that occasionally get hondas then you will have better luck in finding a cheap swap. I went to noyan which only deals with imported motors and they wanted about 700 for a b18b longblock. Ive personally seen about 6 b18a's at my yard alone, in diff conditions ranging from burns on the valve cover to so clean you could eat off it. Its also luck sometimes, for everytime i seen a b18a there, ive seen twice as many integras stripped to the bone.
