y1, ys1, whats the diff?
I know theyre both lsd equipped and 5 speed and that ones 92-93 and the other 90-91 I beleive, but whats the real difference? If I can get a YS1 over a Y1 for $100 more is it worth it??
The YS1 seems to have a beefier housing and I think is a stronger tranny all around. It has great gears and you can get a factory LSD (as well with the y1).
But what sold me on the YS1 is that if the gears or synchros die I can actually buy the parts to fix them here in the states where as the Y1 I can't.

I put a little write up on cable b series transmissions here

Always, always always get an LSD.

Just a heads up.
The USDM YS1 everyone on HT raves about ,was ONLY
available on 92-93 GSR's w/B17. LSD was NOT available in USDM YS1's.
That means from what I've read, they're only about 2000-3000
USDM close ratio YS1's floating around the US.
The problem is compounded by the fact that almost ALL wide ratio
LS trannys are ALSO coded YS1.
Why honda would do this is beyond anyone I've talked to on HT.
So, unless YOU SEE IT come out of a 92-93 GSR I'd be very skeptical
of it being the close ratio one or the JDM one.
PS: From what I can gather there is no way to tell the diff. from the outside
which is which.
Caveat Emptor!!
PPS:There's a good article on this at http://www.hondaswap.com , but you gotta register first.
Try this one too.

If this is a USDM tranny - there is one way to tell the YS1 transmissions from one another without opening the case:
Get the numbers off the front side of the tranny (usually a sticker next to where the engine has it's block code). Give those numbers to your local Acura dealer - they can tell you what trim level Integra that tranny came out of, given somebody hasn't switched anything on you. You are giving them the tranny code, not the VIN#.
If you would have searched, you would have seen this regardless, as it has been posted before - I am just stating that this is a legitimate method I have used to weed out an "LS" tranny for sale (posted as a GS-R tranny in the ad). The guy got "GS" confused with "GS-R".
Also of note, his RPM level at 70mph was around 3,000rpm, and the Y1 I have sits right at 4,000rpm at 70mph. I imagine the YS1 you are looking for sits at 4K or higher.

Hey Milk,
That's some helpful info right there.
Wished I'd have thought of it.
Not too sure if anyone has seen that previous thread, though.
I never found it.
Where were you a month ago, when I needed you. LOL
Before, I knew anything about my YS1, I searched and searched,
and could never find someone to tell me a way to help me identify mine,
without splitting the cases.

I called my local Acura dealer and he said that the tranny serial # doesn't represent anything. He said once the tranny is seperated from the engine, there is no way to identify them...?
I sure would like to know what dealership you're referring to. Maybe they can help me out.
Thanks.

I don't have a USDM YS1, but JDM. I have been recently informed the the USDM Integra one is the same as the JDM XSI Integra one I have. Thankfully this means mine is rebuildable, which I thought it was going to be difficult to do if it was ever required.
