Default question about piston rings

i have just aquired another b18c1 block but this block is complete with everything only problem is that the car it came out of it was smoking bad especialyl when vtec kicked in. well i figured the im going to need new pistons rings. but the thing is how do i tell if the cylinder walls need to be HONED? will it be something that i cant visually see? or is it something i can actually look at and tell?

for example, sya i go look at it right now and the walls look smooth does that mean im good to go , or wil the damage be to the point where i can not see with a naked eye? any advice please

also how much does it cost to get the cylinder walls honed?

You should be able to see the hatchings in the cylinder walls...if they are completely smooth they need to be honed. I would hone anyway for good measure. It is better to be safe than pregnant...i mean, sorry.

Inspect the bores, if you see any gouges or scratches, run your fingernail across them. If you can feel it with your fingernail, you need to bore the motor. If not, you might be o.k. with a hone job and new rings. Personally, I would not run a block that has not been checked by a good machine shop for a true deck and out of round cylinders.

any b-series rings i believe; but i'm definitely sure the b16 rings from a del sol or 99-00 Si or even from an LS motor will work.

13011-PR3-003 (Teikoku), or 13011-PR3-004 (Riken), both standard bore.
Or: 13021-PR3-004-0.25mm over.(Riken).
