Default lsvtec checklist.. help me out.

lsvtec. i am very new to it. never really researched it.
okay heres what i have:
1 complete pr3 b16a
1 complete pr4 b18a
pr3 ecu

what will i need to do to the freshen up the ls shortblock. heres what i want to do:
new bearings (what will need to be done to the crank to install new bearings?)
all seals and gaskets
hone

what else do i need to run ls vtec. correct me if i am wrong but will this be it:
ARP rod bolts
lsvtec line kit (where can i get these?)
better valvesprings (since they are gen 1 b16?)
new rings
machine work for installing the head?

Also, what oil pump, water pump, and timing belt should i get?
is itr oil pump better than the b16's?

what will need to be done to fit the pr3 pistons on the ls rods?

i just need this help b/c i swapped the b18a out in favor for the b16 to come to find out that the b16 has a bearing problem. something is knocking in the bottom end. oil light comes on and flashes.

lmk know anyhting and everything there is to know about this.

okay, okay...

for the block:

rods you can use your stock ls rods and the b16 pistons will match, arp bolts is good too along with arp head studs etc. you can also use ctr pistons (much preferrred) for more CR. Use oem bearings and pumps. if you decide to use ls water and oil pump, you will need ls timing belt. people say that the itr pumps are better, dont know by how much but personally, Im using LS pumps. lsvtec line kit is sold here on HT for cheap, I bought mine at jdmhondaparts.com for $100. nothing special about it, i just like Sheng, hehe (jk). Wiring, people here prefer obd1, more options and i heard it runs better. I'm running a pr3 ecu/hondata stage 2, non obd, but I'm thinking of upgrading to obd1 in the future. anything else you need, just repost i guess and we'll try to help.

about the pumps. arent they different tooth of something? what bekt would i need if i used itr oil pump and b16 water pump? probably b16 rught? BTW whats you 196whp setup? mine will be:
pr3 pistons
ctr cams and valvetrain
mild head port (garage port!!)
JDM 4-1 w/2.5 collector
2.5 exhaust header back
stock pr3 ecu

ill probably have the cam gears and frp for tuning and what not. but thats the big picture. i was thinking maybe 170ish at the wheels? maybe 180-185 after tuning?

some things to remember:
remember to get arp head bolts and arp rod bolts (if using ls rods)
drill and tap the head properly to ensure no oil leak.
balance your bottom end.
do the machine work (hone/bore/clean/deck).
get all new bearings.
new oil and water pump, new belt.

refer to c-speedracing web site. they have a write up w/ real good info.

my ls/vtec rev to 9-10k at the drag strip and so far no problem (knock on wood)

what he said. to answer your Q, I'm running us itr pistons, gsr head, toda C's, port, milled head/block, blueprint, balance, stock shotpeened rods, lightened flywheel, skunk2 intake, ericks racing TB (66/68mm), hondata stage 2, pr3 non obd. Tuning is the key...I have yet to get my car tuned again. It blew a fuse last Friday under dyno and we didnt detect the problem til Tuesday...I'm due to go back soon to finish the job. Hopefully hit 200whp.

My LS/VTEC hits 188.xwhp using CTR cams. 1 hour dyno tuning.
With Toda Cs, you definitely can break 200whp with good tuning.
Good luck

get your f*ckin bottom end balenced!!! and if you dont want to drill the block, then get stepped dowels, peep this thread :

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=537594

and other than that... new oil pump, water pump you can leave LS water pump. if you use LS water pump = LS timing belt, use a b16 water pump, use a b16 timeing belt, get the drift? and good luck!

i was told that you can not use a b16 timing belt, it's too short.
i went with a ls water pump and ls timing belt. you can also
get gsr/type r water pump and matching gsr/type r belt.

i think i might just do the poor mans ITR. gsr shortblock with p30 pistoons with a pr3 head with CTR cams. sounds good? i think this will yield me more reliable power than an ls vtec.
