Default CEL 17-VSS: Where do I start to troubleshoot/fix this?

My damn speedo stopped working tonight, accompanied by a CEL code 17 - Vehicle Speed Sensor.

Where should I start to trouble shoot this and fix the problem?

Thanks

on the back side of your tranny(looking down from your dizzy, intake piping) there is a clip(from your engine harness) on a sensor(if you have a hydro tranny) or a cable to it(if you have a cable tranny)..... see if its still connected... if not then connect it...

if its all connected then you may want to reaplace the sensor...
pull off the clip and get a rachet with a 10mm(+extension) and take it off... when you pull it off its sorrta long...

when i try to conserve millege on my cluster, i pull off the speed sensor, but the catch is no vtec(due to no vehicle speed reading).......but i dont really car about vtec when im in traffic...hahhahaah

hope that helps man...

also check on the vss itself... sometimes the 3 pins on the sensor become corroded and brake off

Ok, I found the sensor and checked it with a Voltmeter like my Haynes said to. The voltage is fine so that leads me to believe that the VSS itself is bad.
Any idea where to get a used or cheap one? I was quoted $200+ for a new one!!!

Does anyone have the part # for the VSS?
Its for a 94 Civic Ex 5spd

most all of hondas VSS are interchangable. When I put my LS in my EG I used my civic VSS. The only thing is the holes wont always lineup so you have to fabricate it a little. but as long as it fits in the hole it will work.
