ECU and OBD1 OBD2 harnesses help
im planning on getting a USDM B18C5 swap soon. been looking around to see what i need to get for my car in order to do the swap. i've got a 92 cx so i know its a OBD1. my question is does the USDM B18C5 plug right into mine even though it is a OBD2??? what year motor am i looking for in order to plug and play??? and im guessing my ECU is a p28. why wouldnt i want to run the ITR'S OBD2 ECU??? who can i turn to to re-chip my ECU??? im great with mechanical stuff but when it comes to harnesses and which one is which... im clueless. so any help would be great. tom would be a great help cuz i know he got the same setup. thanks in advance.

if the motor is USDM and it comes with the harness then yes most plugs will plug in and the car will work (longest OBDI ECU is used).
if the motor is JDM then reuse your harness and replug to OBDII style plugs on the distributor, injectors and alternator (very simply job) add to that vtec solenoid and knock sensor oil pressure can be spliced at the ecu side to vtec solenoid (as the JDM lack this) and OBDI look for it.
if the ecu is USDM ('00 and up) then you'll need the imoblizer removed before you can use the ecu. plus few sensors will need to be added. if the ECU is JDM then you can run the with a simply OBDI to OBDIIa harness converter. but above ways will cost more and will never yield the power and adjustablitly of a P28.
chipping your P28 or even converting your P05 ecu to dohc vtec specs can be easily accomplished. check my sig.

so that means that i do have a p28 in my cx and it would be cheaper to chip it than to use the ITR ecu and have to do all that other stuff???
would i need to get an apexi VAFC in order to tune it??

your CX has a P05 and/or P06 either one can be made to be a vtec (just like p28) ecu.
VAFC is optional and does offer more tuning options and possibly higher output if properly set.
is the motor JDM or USDM????
