Polishing Max Rev manifold.
Any downsides of polishing the manifold .it looks like **** after some use, but i heard to watch for rust when messing with the finish? doe sit really need the high lsuter finish or just a decent sanding ? anyone have a list of steps to polish this thing
Hey man! I did mine......it's worth it........starts out silver when you are done, then turns gold and purple when it gets hot. I will get some pics and a list of sandpaper later on tonight.
Cool thanks farnsocket. i just hate the way it looks , it kills the whole look of the under the hood of the car. now the motors out so i got time to put into it to get it lokoing good .
Yea when you get a chance to list some steps to do it right , id appreciate it .

Thanks! Basically I started out with a course emery paper, maybe like 100 grit. You just don't want to make scratches in the mani that will not come out with the finer paper. I then worked up to 200, 300, 400 and then 600.......I actually had some 1000 grit stuff that I finished off with. You can do a small spot underneath the mani real quick with all the paper you have to see what it will look like before you do the whole mani. Lastly, I used Mothers Mag/metal polish. I tried using my Dremel with a sandpaper bit, but it seemed to burn areas and was not as consistent as doing it by hand. It definately looks badass once it turns gold and purple.......it gives it a shiny finish, almost like it is clear coated, instead of the dull rough look. Hope this helps.
Hey Pete, when I told you about the "rusting" I remembered that it started after I spent 2 weeks at the beach. I guess the salt in the air got to it or something.
Anyways, dont make it look chrome like mine here---im sure it wont have the "rusting" issue if you keep it a little less polished and it'll still look nice.

I think i remember Goeff from Full Race posting pics of his manifolds a while back where he had different cosmetic looks. One being glassbead, one polished, one natural...etc. He uses the same grade stainless as the maxrev so you will get a good idea.
Maybe he can chime in here and help out.

if mine looked like yours, i could deal with that , i like the look of your manifold. ill bring it up and let you try it, it should only take a few min with a blaster.
