Default Anyone here have 5th Gear Synchro Problems???

Was just wondering if any of you 5th gen owners have experienced or heard off the 5th gear grinding problem?? Couple of my friends have had that problem and had to have their trannies replaced. I know its common in the earlier years of the 5th Gen Lude but please give me any info cause it seems like its getting really common, even mine.

I have that problem too...but I just shift slower and it doesn't happen... but sometimes in 3rd + 5th if i quickly throw.. it'll grind / not shift.. but the tranny is pretty old so i dont blame it on Honda, just normal wear and tear

Its just a problem that you have to be prepared for. My friend had to replace his synchro awhile ago. Its just something that can mess up very easily.

When you replace the synchros does that mean the problem will go away or will it come back with age? I have had this problem when I floor 3rd and then shift into 5th to slow down it just seems to grind and I dont like it. I have about 34k on my car.
Thanks!

I have heard that using GM synchromesh in your gearbox helps with the infamous 5th gear grind. I really havent had problems shifting in to 5th but sometimes there is a slight grind.

Does anyone know if using GM synromesh will help to make the shifts smoother?

The GM syncromesh is GGG-RRR-EEE-AAA-TTT (tony the tiger) I LOVE the stuff i had the 5thgear grind and now that i use the syncromesh it is all GONE! it takes prolly 200-300 for it to go away after first switching it. I ran the fluid for over 3 years and not a 5th gear grind. I just changed it out this spring. (it was time for a change anyway)
if you still have a warrantee Buy all means get it taken care of thur that!!

When I first bought my car brand new, about a couple months later 5th gear started grinding. Took it back to the dealer and they fixed it, they said it was a common problem w/ alot of the preludes.

even when forced pushed to stay in it will fight it's way back out

my F22B1 tranny did that too. just gotta learn how to give it some love when you shift
sux but , gotta wait to get some new syncro's
best of luck with that tranny
