civic won't start. mystery!!
my sister's 93 civic stopped running all suddenly. i check timing, off one tooth. i reset timing(use old belt). install new cap/rotor/plugs. compression checked out to 180-130-130-180. plugs are wet w/ gas(no water). injectors are getting pulse. intake is pullin air. spark is present at plug. no backfiring/poping/gulpin. justs spins and spudders. i havn't checked fuel press. or spark lenght. very puzzled pls. help!
Does it have good gas (as in not sitting there for a while)
Does the CEL go off after 2 seconds or just stay on with the key on the ON position?
I know you said there is spark, but take out the spark plug, place it about 1 mm from the top of the distributor and see if you have spark from there.
Check ALL grounds.
Keep us posted.

CEL doesn't come on. i got about 3mm of spark. my friend sugested we use a compressor to pump the cyl up with air. kinda like shady leakdown test. well i heard air leaking out the cyl's. some through the intake and other. i hate to have to pull the head if its not the source. is this eng. a free spining or will it hit valves if timing jumps a little. i apprieciate any thoughts...

I think he means it'll come on (bulb check) when you first turn the key on.
Try NEW plugs. I had gas-fouled plugs one time, I dried them out & the looked real good. But they wouldn't fire. I was stubborn so I kept looking for other problems for a couple hours. When I put brand new plugs in it fired right up. Just a possibility that's easy to try.
It's an interference engine, so piston will hit the valves if the timing belt breaks. But if it only jumped, I think it has to be off way more than one tooth before it hits.

Spark plugs are new. compression tests have been made. the results were wierd. first they show low (70-90psi), then it would be good (180psi). used two compression gauges. the leakdown test is hard to ignore. well i will pull head and keep ya posted on the results. thanks.
the middle cylinders probably have bent valves. i have seen 2 engines in my life give normal compression numbers or near normal numbers and have bent valves and not run.
the 130's worry me, alot. they should all be within +-10 of each other.
