Default TodaSi blows....

I was at the ClubSi event at Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, MI.
Running a strong lap, car pulling hard during my group's second lapping session of the day, hard on the brakes into turn 11 then on to the front straight, 3rd gear, 4th gear, suddenly the power feels flat "?" then BAM!!!! threw #2 rod through the block
No knocks, now rattles, no pinging, just an instant of flat power and BAM game over.

B18c5 block
blue printed balanced
knife-edged crank
ITR rods
Toda pistons
Spec C cams

Good thing is I only lost about 1/2 quart of oil Gained a new big hole in block though

Now what to do? B18c1, B16a, B20?

Still don't have a clue why it happened.....

Oh man, sorry to hear this Chad.. Does a "knife-edged" crank lose its strength compared to a regular one?

Dayum! That's my worst nightmare - grenading the motor with no warning.

Do you have a baffled oil pan?? Did you check the oil before that last session? Have you ever over-revved the engine before??

Maybe you had an injector fail on you? What kind of injectors are you running?

For the new motor - I say B20 VTEC or B18 sleeved to 84.5mm

Yes, Ausmith's 1998 Integra Type R #55 was totaled. I believe his father put a wheel off in turn #6, got sideways and then shot off the track into a berm. Wai was in the car as a passenger. Both were alright, don't think the car will make it though Whole front end is pushed over to the side and down.

I think he made out much worse than I did

Yes, oil was fine, check each session

Run 440cc injectors

Not baffled pan....a thought but would expect 1 or 4 to go before #2 if it was oil starvation.

Just ran out there 11 days prior, no problems.

B20? gonna have to think about that, never really considered a b20. Can those rev to 9000 easy?

With forged internals and a fully balanced rotating assembly - why not? you already have the pistons - just get new forged rods. Is your crank ok?

Well, just looking through the BIG *** HOLE with a flashlight, it doesn't look too bad. There are a couple of nicks on it, but it may work. Gonna let it set for a few days until I get over being mad at it. Bad motor, bad.

Noooo. That sucks. Glad the driver/passenger sound ok though.

Can't offer you any ideas on the build. Although I will say a built B20 would definitely make you happy. Torque owns.
