Removing crank pulley?
OK I like to think I'm fairly proficient when it comes to working on my own car. But what do you do when you just can't get the crank pulley bolt off? I tried an air gun and a breaker bar, but no luck. The major problem is that the engine is flexing in its mounts. I'm ready to take it somewhere and pay to have it done, which is a shame because it would be a simple job if the bolt would just loosen.
Just a thought but have you tried loosening the bolt in a clockwise motion? I seem to remember that there is one major bolt on the car that loosens in such a fashion.
The crank pulley bolt is NOT a reverse thread bolt.
Here is the trick...get a good 1/2" impact gun or just about any 3/4" impact gun and that will remove it. I use a 3/4" impact gun and it gets them every time. If you don't have one...borrow one. It only takes a second.
Or Honda and Moroso make a crank pulley holder with a long arm on it. This in conjunction with a 36" breaker bar should do the trick. Good luck.

I've got the impact gun on mine right now. No luck. Been fighting this thing for two days now ... the only thing that's holding up my head swap. All because I wanted to change the timing belt even though I only have 84K miles
just use a breaker bar. don't apply even pressure. use abrupt thrusts it will come off. IF you have a 3 ton jack just use one of the handles. This worked for me varily easy. I was suprised.

Actually Dan, it's right-handed on the 97's too. Ask me how I know.
The bolts that hold the ring gear to the differntial are also right-hand threaded. AFAIK, those are the only two places you will find them.
As far as the crank pulley goes, try some liquid wrench. Do the whole tranny in gear, someone on the brakes things, along with a pry bar in the flywheels teeth to hold everything steady. Then use the biggest breaker bar you can find. I usually use my jack handle.
Alternately you can use a good 1/2" impact gun, or a 3/4" gun. I recommend Ingersol Rand myself.
