OT: Got Boxy? Pics of my new beater
The beater search has ended! As tempting as Ed's 323GTX was (and is!), I ended up buying this:

1983 Volvo 245 DL Wagon. Yeehaa!! Powered by the B23F engine (107hp, 12? tq as claimed by Volvo). Inline four, Bosch Jetronic electronic fuel injection. Automatic with OD. RWD (though I haven't gotten the hang of powerslides just quite yet
).
The mighty B23F:

Rear view:

Still less than 200k miles (well, sort of)

Project Crutchfield is done (cd player, speaker install). Project RPM is upcoming - tachometer to replace stock clock (tanks Willard!!). Couple more pics in http://itr-nc.com/volvo if anyone's interested.

What is it with the NC guys and their Volvo's?
j/k
Beaters rule!
I'm keeping it in the Honda family for now, but the time may come when I make an FD my "beater."

you make me miss my 88 240 DL! I wonder when they switched over to the 120 MPH speedo, my friend had one just like that, it was amusing how much time it spent off the chart. Untill his overdrive died, then it would burn a quart of oil ever 10 minutes or so above 60 MPH...heh. enjoy yer tank! I didn't have a tach either, but i always knew what time it was...
don't powerslides require....power?
I love the tank already! I put about six hundred miles on it last week - does not burn or leak oil! AC even sort of works (it'll cool, just don't expect too much). Clock doesn't work, so it's getting replaced by a tach this week sometime.
Got lots of plans, lots of ideas. First thing to do is figure out why I want more power out of a kaa I paid $500 for!!

Boba- who likes the look of the boxyness of his '80 Corolla
Whatever happened to the scout?
Boba - Yeah, right now I'm just going to do maintenance items, plus some guage updates. Might do springs/shocks/swaybars if availability is there. K&N filter (as Diane says, everything needs a K&N). Then there are some chassis braces to get. Would love a set of alloy wheels from a Turbo Coupe. Then a turbo motor swap.
Yikes!! Somebody stop me!
Pat - Everything DOES need a K&N...
But hold on the other mods man... it's a beater... spend the money to get on track... with the ITR, not the Volvo! hehehe...

yeah, just in case you didnt know what happened when your car didnt stop and you crashed into that car in front of you, you can go back to the idiot lights and see that it was truely a brake failure.
That volvo will last forever. My friends moms has almost 250k. Oh yeah and if you go fast around a corner just right you can get it on two wheels.lol
I was gonna trade my 86 Lincoln LSC in when I got my R, but they weren't going to give me anything for it...like less than 1K...so I kept it as my beater..it's in good shape and very hi tech for being 15 years old...plus it's comfy hehehehe
Good luck with it, but I wouldn't sink too much cash in it...keep it for what it is, A BEATER!

You know that there's a place up in Maine called Converse Engineering who builds a mounting kit that allows a 5.0 Ford motor and tranny to drop right in, right?
It would make a great tow vehicle and would probably be pretty fun to drive too.
