Default Removing axle from hub assembly?

I am swapping on all new brake/suspension assembly. I removed the entire front yesterday, but ran into a slight problem. After removing the axle nut on the hub and everything else, the axle would not pry from the hub assembly. Now, the car is a 93 del sol s, so its all kinds of rusted in there...what should I do? How can I get the axles out of the hubs??? I tried the "BFH" technique...no luck.

You can get a big three arm puller from auto-zone. You lock the arms onto the rotor and tighten the center punch until the axle is pushed out. If that doesn't work, it could be a damaged wheel bearing or bent knuckle that won't let the axle out (pesonal experience with a friend's car).

Well...both axles are stuck in both hubs. The car has 148k on it so its been through a little bit. There is just some rust in there thats probably causing it to cease. I'm going to hit it up with some PB blaster and see what happens.

If you had something that would fit over the wheel studs, like a piece of heavy bar stock, you could crank it down with 2 lugnuts, applying pressure to the end of the axle.

How big was the BFH? Sledge hammer?

THe question is, what's going to give first? The axle or the race of the wheel bearing? If hammering or pressing the axle out is just going to screw up the bearing, it might be worth it to take the whole knuckle and axle assembly to a shop that can get them apart and then go ahead and press new wheel bearings in for you.

Try the PB blaster (it was suggested to me by others), mine did the same thing about a month ago and I just took the assembly to a friends shop and got it pressed out. That was after the AutoZone tool broke trying to get it out though.

Sorry to bring up an old post, but this is the only way I can post something I need to ask ( computer is fucked up ). Any way its right up this topics question. Here goes.

Problem, 1 of the front axles is stuck in the hub. I have it soaked with PB Blaster now, but Ive gone thru 3 pullers trying to make it budge, no success. Any secrets?

Now for the even bigger problem. You know how at the end of the axle there is a smaller none threaded area ( where they put the pinch on the axle nut to keep it from backing out ), well somehow and this was done after they removed the nut, that area is not there and now the axle end is crowned. Looks like they couldnt remove it either so whoever had it last must of beat the **** out of it with a hammer totally smashing it down to where the threads start. So even if I got it loose, the crowned area wont fit thru the hub opening.

Im not so sure there is enuogh room to get any kind of saw on it to cut off the crowned area. Anyone have any kind of suggestions, thoughts, opinions on how in the hell to remove the axle now? As it sits now, I feel like Ive been screwed over ( old owner may have know this problem ) and screwed as far as the 5 lug goes.

Anything will be greatly appreciated. This really blows my happy thoughts of running 5 lugs

there's no problem in digging up old threads if they pertain to your search for answers.

As far as the crown goes, you might as well get a cut off wheel if backing the nut off didn't straighten out the threads. The old downside to using the cutoff wheel is mostly likely you won't be able to re-use that end of the axle. You may have to replace that side or just get a complete new axle.

Getting the axle out may just take precision work mixed with pure hell if it's stuck that hard. You may try a mechanic's shop or just find somewhere you can place the hub assembly and axle so that you can go at it with full force to knock or pry it out of there.

yea I dont really care about the axle, cause its off the ctr and I still have my si axles.

Yea right after I posted this I sat and stared at the stupid thing and got to thing, maybe use a dremel with a cut off wheel to clean up the crowning and haul it down to a mechanics shop tomorrow and get it pressed out. I dont really care if the bearing get ruined from the pressing anyway cause I am planning on putting new bearings in before I do the swap. I just dont want the splines of the hub getting messed up.

Thx for your response Russ, appreciate you taking the time to check it out.
