Exhaust leak maybe? Need your help.
My friend was shifting from 3rd to 4th but accidently put it in 2nd but only for a split second. Now when the car idles it sounds like a "putt putt" noise coming from the exhaust. This sound only can be heard at a stand still idle. Driving from 1st-5th sounds normal and no problem. Do you guys think that maybe an exhaust gasket is loose which is causing the car to make a strange noise at idle? Thanks in advance.
no, mine does this too, previous owner shifted from top of 3rd to 2nd and the head gasket blew(now replaced with new one) and the valves are definately bent. the exhaust sputters the same way at idle. He will want to build his head before he does anything cosmetic, it will only get worse
Have him check the coolant in the radiator and make sure there isn't any bumbles. If there is he probably blew his headgasket as well
