HELP!? weird noise!!
i just picked up my integra gsr 1998 a few days ago..
the car runs nice and very strong. but i cant but notice a rattling/jingling noise?
it happens often when im shifting or cruising with rpm's aroun 3 sometimes lower and sometimes higher..
im thinkin since the car the completely stock it could be the HEAT SHIELD?
im not sure but does anyone have answers?

It could be any of the exhaust heatshields. They're easiest to check.
It could be the A-pipe rattle, that's a double-wall pipe. The inner tube buzzes against the outer. This sounds pretty common, search this BB for more information.
It could even be the ceramic guts of the cat being broken & rattling.

hmm i have the same problem with my 96 gsr...noise happens only between 3-4k rpm... my cousin told me that it was my A-pipe after he checked it out... he's a service tech for honda ...well he said the cheapest way to replace it was to get a header...which i did and it solved the problem...then about 7 months later i hear the noise again!!!! same problem i am thinkin...its annoying! but maybe it could be something else as what u guys mentioned
....
....
what kind of header did you get and how much did you pay for it? I have the same problem and told its my A pipe, but some said it might be the heatshield. My question is, if it is the heatshield, is there any other way to solve the problem than removing the heatshield? Just wondering. I'm not sure if I want to remove all my heatshield because I believe there's a purpose why they put the heatshield there.
Thanks a lot

First you gotta find the rattling. There's heatshields bolted to the cat, some more bolted to the B-pipe, and even more bolted to the underside of the floorpan. There's a zillion ways for them to fail, you just have to look.
Sometimes the bolts holding the heatshield are just loose. Tighten them, use some locktite or something... Sometimes the heatshield rusts off. If the bolt hole has rusted so big that it just falls off, you might use a fender washer to hold it back on. Or a hose clamp. If the heatshield is all rusty & dark colored, it's not working anyway, so you need a shiny new one.

Heres what I did when I was in ur EXACT situation...
Take a broom stick and bang it against the heatshield on your catalytic converter and the heatshield that goes over your B-pipe right after the cat. Mine were both rattling so I called acura and they said it was fine to remove.. Its been a year no and I've had no problems, just don't park over leaf piles.
Try a search next time boss, this topic is covered like twice a day. Literally.
