new timing belt at 30k?
im gettin the head redone and i was wondering if i should do the timing belt since it only has 30k miles on it?? what about the water pump.. im kinda low on funds but when i hit 90k im sure i'll have money... but should i do the belt and not the pump??
if you're really worried about it...do it..t-belts are cheap and if you have the head off..it's a prime time to do it..hell do the water pump too.
follow the = don't fix it if it ain't broke.
Timing belts last more then 100k but it's good to change about 80-90k. Just visually inspect it. Water pump, I doubt it's bad unless your car is overheating or something.

You don't need to take the timing belt off to remove the head. Just slide it off the cam spockets. Anyways, don't get a new timing belt even if you do take it off. An oem timing belt is $50!
That's just a waste of money.

yeah, then you don't have to change it until 120k....

What does getting the head redone mean? at 30k you should be fine with the minor scheduled tuneup.
I would suggest leaving the car as is. Your timing belt should be good for another 75k at least. Probably not worth $ IMHO.
If you do decide to go ahead, use with OEM parts.

Changing the timing belt at 30K is overkill if it is still in good condition. Although, it won't hurt to change it. Keep in mind that if the timing belt fails you are looking into expensive repairs.
Somebody says its $50 for a new OEM. If I were in your shoes, I'd replace it. Cheap insurance and for peace of mind IMO.
