Default Brake Master Cyl. for 94-95 Integra interchangeable with 97+ Integra??? HELP!

Please help me out... I just bought a really nice Carbing Type II strut bar and it doesn't fit. I noticed that the master cylinder in the 94 Integras is different than those in the 97+ Integras. People with the 97+ say that the bar barely fits over their brake master cylinder.

Does anyone know if the 97+ master cylinder will fit my 94 Integra? One person I talked to said it won't, but I can't see why it wouldn't. My MC is bad, anyway, so I am having it replaced on Monday. Please help me. Thanks a lot!

After searching a little I found this diagram showing the two. What do you make of it? It looks like the two types have different bolt positions, but the way it is shown, it looks like the two might be interchangeable?

They are not interchangeable unless you change the brake booster as well. I just swapped in a JDM ITR booster and mastercylinder. It is identical to the 98+ US spec one. I was going to do just the master cylinder, but the flange is different and would not bolt to the booster.

Check the two post below for fitting issues. None of the ITR guys had problems so I can't figure out why you are having problems.

This is because most of the Type-Rs on this board are 97+ which have the smaller brake master cylinder. The 94-96 master cylinder is round, and a little taller than the newer version. Thus the clearance problems.

canuck-mx6: Thanks for the reply! So you are saying that if I change the brake booster as well, the alignment of all the parts should be exactly the same as in a 97+ integra? How much do those brake boosters cost? Thanks again.

If you go through the post you notice the EG, EK's and GSR's didn't experience any major problems either.

Does it hit the booster or the reservoir? Please post a pic of the fitment problem.

Yes, the reservoir will be a little bit lower. The line at the top has to be bent a little to fit the 97+ master cylinder, but other than that, the booster + master cylinder is a complete bolt in. You can't just do the master cylinder because the flange on the 97+ master cylinder will not bolt to the 94-96 brake booster

Dee: Yeah, the bar doesn't clear he reservoir by about an inch or so. I read all of the fitment topics posted by people with EGs, EKs and GS-Rs before I even bought the bar since I wanted to be sure it would fit... Unfortunately I didn't realize that the 94-96 master cylinders are larger than the 97+ ones. I'm sure the EGs, EKs and GS-Rs that posted, all have the smaller version. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get the pic up right away. I have to jack the car up just to test fit it. The bar definitely doesn't fit as it is. Thanks for the post.

canuck-mx6: Thanks again... I will be trying to get the 97+ booster and master cylinder installed in the next couple days.

10k2hvn: The two bars were just fine... I gave them to a friend after I decided to upgrade to the Carbing bars.

If you don''t find a reservoir soon I can send you one of my extras from Japan but it will take 5 to 10 days to get to you.

The OMP bar is a painted Carbing bar.

Update: Even with the 98+ brake booster and brake master cylinder, you cannot swap the setup into a 94-97 integra. The technicians at Acura had it all bolted in and everything, when they found out that the screw fitting on one of the brake lines was too big for the 98+ master cyl. One of the brake lines had the typical 8mm screw, but the other one is a 10mm one. On almost all other hondas and acuras, the screw is 8mm.

They can't even order a new screw since it is permanently attached to the brake line. In the end, I had to chop an 8mm screw off of a 91 Legend at a junkyard, and the technician chopped off the 10mm screw on my brake line and "made" it fit by re-flaring the line and bending it into position.

Everything turned out well in the end, but if I had known it didn't fit before I purchased the bar, I wouldn't have gotten the 3-point Carbing Bar. I will post pictures of it installed, later. It fits really tightly over the 98+ master cylinder... it is even pressing down on it slightly. The final result was worth it for me... especially with the OEM bar on top!

Hahaha... Yeah, it is not really worth it. However, since I already went thru so much effort and waiting to get the bar, there was no way I wasn't gonna make it work. The cost for the booster was $400+ and the cost of the MC was 200+ (these are prices from Acura).
