Default Short Shifter Question - Post Installation

Installed a Skunk2 short shifter today. This is my first car and therefore first attempt at exchanging the shifter from stock to aftermarket on my 95 EG coupe. It's a real culture shock for me. My question is, though, is the shifter supposed to feel as tight as it is? It shifts right into position fine, and definately reaches the gear alot faster, but it just doesn't feel as loose and free as the stock shifter. Is this supposed to happen? Should so much effort be required to align the shifter itself before I go about clicking into gear? I'm wondering if I installed it wrong? Should I have lubed the pivot point or something? Is something out of line? Is there a period of time where the shifter needs to break in a bit and get used to the application? Or am I simply bugging out? Any help/input/experience is appreciated and thanks in advance.

If you did not put any grease on the pivot ball, you should have. Use white lithium grease on the ball.

A short shifter will take more effort anyways, since you shorten up the ratio. But you do need lube

My short shifter is sticky even with the grease. It definatley reaches the gear quicker, but it still feels stiff.
