Default Using A/C button for fans while lapping a good idea?

I have A/C in my b16 rex. When I do lapping day I take off my a/c belt.

When you turn on the a/c in a car it automatically brings on the the rad. fans for extra cooling because the car is under more load. But if you remove the a/c belt and turn on the a/c the fans will still come on but the a/c system doesn't function.

My water temp is fine when I lap but my oil temp gets up there (260+) and the JDM b16 has an oil cooler on the back of the block that runs the coolant through it to keep the oil somewhat cool.. The cooler the coolant, the cooler the oil.

When I lap the fans never come on themselves (I think the fan switch is broken) but if I were to press the a/c button when I lap to bring on the fans for extra cooling would that cause any problems to my a/c system???

Basically what I'm asking is it bad for the A/C system to have it turned on without the belt connected??

From what you have typed. Sounds like just the fans would come on and the A/C would not work, becouse of no belt. But the fans running is only going to cool your water temp down, not your oil temp.

On my car which I took the A/C out of a long time ago but left the fan whenever I see the radiator fan come on I always see the A/C fan on to.

Oh bryant... what are we gonna do with you. The motor has an oil cooler that uses the engine coolant... Therefore if I decreased my water temp I would decrease my oil temp, or at least keeping it from sky rocketing.

So what I am deciphering from your replies is that the a/c is a manual system that is only functional by the power provided by the moving belt. Hence forth, if you removed the belt and tried to turn on the a/c, the system wouldn't be turned "ON" just the electronic part of it which is the fans and the a/c would not by trying to function because it is manually powered by the belt... THEREFORE, causing the A/C system itself no harm.

I thought I would post here to VERIFY my Theory because MOST OF THE TIME my theories have no functional basis in the real world!

why not rig a switch for the fans so that the fans are always on?

When you press the a/c button it triggers the clutch in the compressor to start working, if you take off the belt the clutch should still engage when you push the ac button which could cause probelms but I'm not sure. If you want to be 100% disconnect the wire that runs to the compressor when you take off the belt b4 you run. Thats what I'd do to be sure. Also I see your point in cooling everythign but I dont know if that tiny fan will do too much....every little bit counts.

True that, but if all you want to do is keep your fans on while driving hard I say just make a seperate switch for that. And then save your pennies up for a nicer oil cooler.

dude, it's not gonna hurt anything...

the compressor won't spin.. the only thing that's gonna happen is the clutch will remain engaged on the compressor..
