Stock GSR/SI wheels have a +45 offset. A +38 offset will set the wheel further in closer to the car rather than further out. Most people use buy Rotas, get them with a +40 offset which shouldn't cause any rubbing. Depending on your drop, you might have rubbing issues (when turning), with a +38 offset. Hope this helps.

i have +35 on 16x7 SSR's and its terrible for a big drop, i get rubbing in the front and back, so much that i had to raise up my car

I think rolling the fenders would help tho.

yep it will stick out more.

I've done some research and basically +40-42 offset is perfect for 7" wide rims. People run in that offset range that run the rather wide 215/45/16 azenis. Not too far in and not too far out. +38-45 should be good for the more popular 205/50/15 or 205/45/16 profile tires though.

I don't know the stock offset but +38 is farther out (away from car) than +40. I had some +40 17" and they rubbed so much I had to take them back and get some +42's. Tucked in OK right now. I'd say +45 would be perfect but +42 is fine.
This is for lowered cars only. As a reference, I had my GC's dropped all the way down...probably a 2.5"~3" drop just for fun the first day I got them with stock wheels and had no rubbing issues whatsoever. I was amazed where the wheel went in that small space under there

best to stick with 40mm to 45mm

I have seen people with a offset of 38mm have rubbing problem.
