car will not start, main relay the cause?

Default car will not start, main relay the cause?

i have an 88 si w/d16a6 that will not start when its either hot outside or it hasnt been driven in awhile. after numerous trys it will usually crank after around 45 min or so. ive heard these car tend to have issues with their main relays after some time. any thoughts will be appreciated.

do you hear the relay click when you turn the key to ignition position 2?

if not, then it's the main relay

another thing.. check the ignition switch..

its the 1st in the chain of command... if in the ON key possition, its not getting a good contact.. the car won't do ****.. the key comes 1st..

ignition switch
main relay
battery
starter..

From the symptoms, I'd say there is a 90% chance of main relay. Like the above post, there are other options, but personally I'd check the relay first just based on the symptoms and the fact that they seem to go bad frequently.
